We wanted to introduce you to another member of our team! This is Rachel; she started with us back in January and has become an integral part of our tech team. Here’s a message from Rachel:

“Hello! My name is Rachel Davenport. I am a Veterinary Assistant here at Johnson & Johnson Veterinary Clinic! I have several years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant and I have been excited to be in this field of work since I was a little girl. I have a sweet Pomeranian named Aladdin, a spunky chihuahua named Lewie, and two cats including, a beautiful calico Maine C**n named Bumble and a long haired orange and white tabby named Honey. Thank you for choosing us and giving me the opportunity to help you and your animals. I look forward to seeing you all soon!”

✨ Patient Spotlight ✨

Everyone meet Leah! She is a 5 year old long haired beauty. She came in to the clinic for an unrelated concern but upon physical examination we happened to notice she had a Feline Odontoclastic Restorative Lesion. She is a tough cookie so her owners were unaware she was dealing with this condition. Her owners immediately scheduled a dental so we could address the problem. During the dental we found an additional affected tooth. Both teeth were successfully removed and Leah should now be much more comfortable.

In feline tooth resorption, the enamel layer and then the dentin in a tooth erodes and eventually becomes irreparably destroyed. Tooth resorption is a common condition in cats where their body starts to break down and absorb the structures of a tooth. It affects 30-70% of all cats.

Once the sensitive dentin is exposed, tooth resorption is painful. Affected cats may show increased salivation, oral bleeding, or difficulty eating. They may hiss or cry if chewing hurts. Owners may notice that the cat’s appetite appears normal but they may tilt their head or try to chew on just one side of their mouth. If eating kibble, they may try to swallow without chewing. In many cases tooth resorption will go undetected and the cat will be in pain in silence.

That’s why it is so important to bring your pet in for its annual physical examination- we are often able to catch issues like these that owners may be unaware of. There are so many conditions that dogs and cats can have that are often found on routine physical examination. If caught early enough, many ailments can be treated and lead to a longer life and improved quality of life for the pet.

Leah is back home with her family and doing well! Leah has the best family and we can tell they love her very much ❤️

This has occurred several times now so we would like to kindly remind everyone that our personal residence is not an extension of our veterinary clinic. We respectfully ask that clients do not come to our home seeking veterinary care or advice.

If your pet needs medical attention, please contact the clinic during business hours. If you are experiencing an emergency outside of our hours, please contact an emergency veterinary clinic.

This also goes for our support staff- please respect their time off and refrain from contacting them personally for advice or veterinary care.

We put a tremendous amount of time in after hours running this business while also trying to find a work-life-balance and spend time together as a family.

We are so grateful for the trust you place in us to care for your pets. We know that when an animal is sick or injured, it can be a stressful and emotional situation but we appreciate your understanding and respect for this boundary.

What better time to introduce our new receptionist than during Veterinary Receptionist Week!

Everyone meet Riley! She may be new to the receptionist role but she isn’t new to us! She started working with us back in September as a technician. She wanted to try out the reception position and we think she is the perfect fit!

Riley is from Beardstown. She loves working with animals and their owners. She has two dogs- Marley (lab mix) and Luna (pit/boxer mix). In her free time she enjoys doing jigsaw puzzles, riding horses, and spending time with her family.

Riley is such a positive spirit and we are so grateful to have her on our team! We enjoyed showering her with gifts this week! Happy Veterinary Receptionist Week, Riley! 💙🐾

WE ARE HIRING!

We are currently accepting resumes and conducting interviews for a receptionist position.

We truly love what we do. We hold ourselves to a very high standard and patient care is our number one priority. We are hoping to find a receptionist to join our team. The ideal candidate would be someone who is hardworking, self-motivated, reliable, detail-oriented, with good communication/people skills. The candidate must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. The receptionist will be cross trained and expected to help with some technician tasks as needed. We care for our patients as if they were our own pets and we will expect nothing less from our employees. Experience is preferred but we will train the right person.

Schedule:

The position will be for our Jacksonville clinic.
-Mondays: 9:45am-~7:30pm
-Tuesdays: 7:45am-~5:30pm
-Wednesdays: 7:45am-~5:30pm
-Thursdays: 7:45am-~5:30pm
-Fridays: 8:45am-~1:30pm

We will offer a competitive hourly rate (depending on experience), paid vacation and holidays, paid continuing education opportunities, employee pet discount, paid parental leave, etc.
