If you've done feather art, I'd love to hear about your experience! I'm very interested in doing more with wing feathers and less tedious tiny feathers like what I used here.

This piece was a gift for my customer, Tim. I used pheasant feathers from a hen and a drake and some turkey feathers as well! The light gray frame really brought it all together! This took so many hours but I learned something every step of the way!

My first attempt at feather art. I wanted to combine turkey and pheasant feathers as a gift for Tim for bringing me so many projects as well as enduring the unexpected delay in getting his birds back. This was extremely tedious with such tiny feathers and I know which glues I WON'T be using in the future. What a learning curve it has been for me this past year!

Last 2 of this 5 bird order for Tim! We did a huge turkey fan mount with wings and feet displayed with a resin skull, two pheasants, and two ducks. This was one of my more challenging completions and it took me way longer than expected. I am really grateful for the patience and grace Tim gave me along the way. Thanks so much for helping to make me a better taxidermist! I am still very new and thankful for all the experience I can get! Can't wait to see these all on your wall!

Another pair of birds for Tim! This time we are doing some ducks. Here's some progress photos along the way. Posting their finished look, soon!

Thanks so much, Tim! Here's 2 more of his 5 bird commission with me! These pheasants gave me a run for my money but I learned so much and am very grateful for the patience he showed me as a customer!

My third and fourth pheasant ever. These were the first ones I ever mounted using my own woodwool handmade custom forms. It was overwhelmingly frustrating especially as a new taxidermist just getting started. I really learned so much by doing everything the oldheads said was a "waste of time". I added custom eye rings made from apoxie and painted myself which I was told "isn't worth doing for customers" and I "wasted time" making my own bird bodies and although I struggled with the perfect fit, I am happy to have experienced a new process to know what I am and am not willing to do in the future. I'm thankful for the customers that give me the chance to learn these things!

Had some Raising Guardians | Beauceron Working Dogs puppies keeping me company 🥰

Going from that to this is honestly crazy.

I haven't gone live in a while but it was fun showing the TikTokers feather placement and other things we do as taxidermists to "prep" for the drying stage. Making adjustments beforehand, taping feathers, "babysitting" during the drying stage and making all necessary adjustments as you notice shifts while it dries, that's all stuff that contributes to the overall look. Your goal isn't to make it look dead, it's to make it look as alive as possible.
