This is a reminder to please be kind and patient with our veterinary staff.

Today, our team was down three employees. The two staff members who came in worked tirelessly, including one team member who joined us just six days ago.

We will not tolerate disrespectful behavior toward our team. As posted throughout our facility, walk-in wait times can take several hours, especially when we are not fully staffed.

We care deeply for every pet that enters Shoreline Veterinary Hospital, and we ask that you treat our team with the same level of care and respect when visiting us.

Not this way…. We offered water, snacks, even a blanket. I wish I knew how we were rude, but I also do not believe you can make every person happy.

We are writing to share a heartbreaking situation and to request community support for a grieving pet owner.
Earlier this week, we received a call from an owner who had been declined by every other practice in our area. She was pleading for help for her cat, but had no funding after a devastating experience with an over the counter flea product.

The owner had purchased the product hoping to help her pet with pesky flea infestation, but it unfortunately led to severe toxicity. After hearing what the animal had endured over the previous 12 hours, we could not turn her away. By the time the cat arrived at our office, it was too late to intervene and do any kind of life saving measures. The situation resulted in a necessary humane euthanasia to end the animal's suffering.

We took on this case as a charity because we believe every owner deserves the option to say goodbye to their pet without the added trauma of financial stress as well as Dr Slaters oath as a veterinarian to care for every animal she is presented with.
We are now asking for assistance to replace the expenses used to help this poor kitty

- The cost of the emergency visit and euthanasia.
- The cost of cremation so this owner can bring her baby back home.
We always gather memorial pieces including hair clippings, ink and clay paws prints, so she has those.

No donation is too small. We appreciate any assistance you can provide, or even just kind words for this owner who lost a member of her family. Thank you for helping us provide dignity and compassion during such a difficult time.

Venmo with our office phone number.

Call or text with a donation amount you would like to make.

YOUR PET’S HEARTWORM PREVENTION MAY NOT BE WHAT YOU THINK.
This is not a scare tactic. This happened to one of our patients within the last few days as well as multiple others recently.
This dog we saw who, according to his owner, had been consistently receiving oral heartworm prevention purchased from a popular online pharmacy. Despite apparently being given prevention as directed, this dog tested POSITIVE FOR HEARTWORM DISEASE.
So how is that possible?
When medications come from questionable or unauthorized sources, there is no guarantee that what is inside that package is what the label says. Counterfeit or improperly sourced medications may contain the wrong amount of active ingredient, the wrong ingredient altogether, or may have been improperly stored, meaning your pet may receive little to no actual protection.
And with heartworm disease, the consequences can be devastating.
Heartworms are transmitted by mosquitoes.
Adult worms live in the heart and major blood vessels.
Infection can cause permanent damage to the heart, lungs, and blood vessels.
Severe disease can become life-threatening.
Heartworm disease is much easier and safer to prevent than to treat.
And fake or improperly sourced medications aren't just a heartworm concern. Medications from unreliable sources can be expired, contaminated, improperly stored, incorrectly dosed, or completely ineffective.
PLEASE DON'T RISK YOUR PET'S HEALTH TO SAVE A FEW DOLLARS.
If you purchase your pet's medications online, make sure you are using a legitimate, properly licensed pharmacy and that the medication is being dispensed with your veterinarian's prescription. The FDA specifically recommends checking that online pharmacies are properly licensed and warns against sites that don't require prescriptions or offer prices that seem too good to be true.
When in doubt, ask us before giving it to your pet.
We would much rather help you verify a medication than discover later that your pet has been unknowingly left unprotected. Every dose will come with a lot number and expiration which can be traced to the manufacturer.
Your pet trusts you. Make sure you can trust their medication, too.
Heartworm prevention is only prevention if the medication is authentic, properly stored, and actually works.
If you're unsure about where your pet's medication came from, please contact our office or call the manufacturer directly.

We also have multiple online pharmacy options that use medications directly sourced from the manufacturers (links in the comments) any current client can utilize these stores to keep your pet happy and healthy! 🐕 🐈‍⬛ 🐈🐩🐕‍🦺

This is also one of the main reasons we have stopped working with third party pharmacies.
You can pick up a script, but we cannot, in good faith endorse third party pharmacies when we are seeing illegitimate medications causing life threatening health issues for our patients

Our team comes to work every day because we genuinely love animals and are committed to providing the best care possible for every pet that walks through our doors. Veterinary medicine is more than a job to us... it's a passion, and our staff consistently go above and beyond for our patients and their families.

Recently, our hospital has been operating with a reduced team due to illness, scheduled vacations, and family emergencies requiring staff to be out of state. . Our office will never deny an employee their deserved time away from work, we strive to help best we can with mental health and over working will wear you down QUICK!.
As a one doctor practice, we have a limited number of hands available to care for scheduled appointments, hospitalized patients, emergencies, and walk-in visits. Many days, our team works through lunch, misses breaks, and stays late to ensure every pet receives the attention they need
We understand that waiting can be frustrating. However, if you choose to visit as a walk-in, please understand that we have several notices posted explaining that wait times may be lengthy. Scheduled appointments and medical emergencies must be prioritized, and we do our very best to accommodate every patient as time and staffing allow.

What we will not tolerate is disrespect, verbal abuse, or bullying directed toward our staff. Our employees deserve to work in an environment where they are treated with the same kindness and respect that they extend to every client and patient. We will hang up if you begin to yell at us and be disrespectful, we will send your records to find a new vet. We will not tolerate this type of behavior.

We ask for your patience, understanding, and compassion, just as we strive to show those qualities to you and your pets every day. We appreciate the many clients who continue to support, encourage, and show kindness to our team. Your understanding means more than you know.

Thank you for allowing us to care for your beloved family members, thank you for trusting Shoreline to help make your pets days, the best!

Look look!!! 👀🐾

We have all sorts of fun little goodies “for sale” to help support our Angel Fund account. 💟 (some already there, some on the way)

Most items will only be around $7–8 (but of course, if you’d like to donate a little extra, we certainly won’t stop you 😉🐾💩🐕)

Some of the items there and some coming soon:
• Fire hydrant p**p bag holders (in route)
• Paw print p**p bag clips
• Puppy stand/watch chargers
(photos below 👇)
Taking recommendations on other items (next doing the bowls that attach to a water bottle)

Every dollar raised goes directly toward helping families facing one of the hardest goodbyes imaginable when finances become an added burden during an already heartbreaking time.

Lately, our Angel Fund has not had enough to fully cover cremation costs for every family needing assistance. Even so, our cremation service continues to help however he can, often taking on costs himself simply because he cares that deeply for our community and the pets we all love.

This fund means more than we can put into words. It allows families to focus on loving and comforting their pets in their final moments instead of worrying about how they will afford aftercare.

Thank you all for continuing to support our little clinic, our community, and the animals who mean everything to their families. 🐾💟
Of course, you do not have to buy anything either to make a donation towards this fund either. Text, email or call to make a donation over the phone. 910-238-2015 we have our Venmo now as well

We can even mail these items if you’d like!

How could we forget!!?? I think we have been a little busy!
Happy Veterinary Appreciation Day to the incredible team that keeps our hospital running every single day. 🐾💙 (June 18th)

Veterinary medicine is not always easy. There are long days, emotional moments, happy endings, heartbreaking goodbyes, and countless sacrifices made behind the scenes that most people never see. But through it all, our team continues to show up with compassion, dedication, and love for every patient and family that walks through our doors.

To our owner and veterinarian, Dr Slater, thank you for your endless commitment, leadership, and for working alongside us daily through the good days and the hard ones.
Dr Welsh comes in here spaying and slaying as I call it!! Thank you for only complaining a little when we add on those last minute emergency surgeries when we already have a full schedule for you!!!

And to our amazing support staff thank you for every early morning, late night, tears shed, comforting hug, paw
squeezes, wagging tail, wet kisses and life saved. Your hard work never goes unnoticed, even on the days it may feel unseen.
