What does enrichment look like? Enrichment training looks like Knox enjoying some peanut butter while getting a few bigger tangles brushed out. Knox is going through coat change, and this was the first time he had to have significant brushing done at the groomers. The peanut butter treat communicates to Knox that he is safe and that we are trying to help him.

Luke got to spend his birthday being pampered with some enrichment activities and a face, feet, and f***y haircut! And we ended the spa day with a little birthday party! Thank you to Paws and Whiskers Pet Pantry for the bandana and hat and The Wag Booth for the cookie!

Please consider adopting a pit bull from the shelter! They are some of the best dogs and are so eager to please their owners. They are also the most at risk of being put down in a shelter. If you are wanting to add a new family member, please consider a rescued pit bull!

📣 A Heartfelt Plea From Your Local Shelter 🐾

We need to be honest with you - our shelter is in crisis.

This year alone, we’ve seen a massive spike in owner surrenders, abandoned dogs, and strays. We are completely overwhelmed. There are more dogs coming in than there are homes available. If this continues, euthanasia will be the only option for dogs we simply don’t have space for.

We take in nearly 1,000 dogs each year, and 700–800 of them are pit bulls or pit mixes—the very dogs who often have the hardest time finding homes.

We know some people think they can drop off their dog without worry because we’re a “no-kill” shelter-but that’s not the reality.

🚫 Dogs who pose any risk to public safety-whether from actual behavior or even fear-based reactivity-can be euthanized. Even dogs who are just scared and acting out because they’re stressed may not be safe to place in the community. We are a City department. The city can not, and should not, risk the safety of our residents, their children, or their pets.

💔 Please, do not bring your dog to the shelter unless it is truly a last resort.
If you’re struggling, reach out. We may be able to help you keep your pet with resources, support, or guidance.

✅ We also offer FREE spay and neuter services for pit bulls and pit mixes.
Unwanted litters lead directly to overcrowded shelters—and ultimately, to euthanasia. Fixing your dog saves lives.

🛑 Get your pets fixed.
🛑 Don’t get a dog unless you’re ready for a lifelong commitment.
🛑 Ask for help before surrendering.

We’re full. The rescues are full. The crisis is real. And the dogs are paying the price.

Pets Rock!! Fest is just 4 days away! It is a fantastic time with lots of events (dock diving, doggie foam party, and wiener dog racing!), and we will be there offering pet-safe. temporary, and colorful designs!

We are also releasing a digital doodle grooming guide and will have physical copies available at the event.
