PAAD: Promoting Animal ADoptions We are a group of volunteers working to Promote Animal ADoptions for the SPCA of Tompkins County (Ithaca, NY)

We are a group of volunteers working to Promote Animal ADoptions (PAAD) for the SPCA of Tompkins County (NY). The animals we feature on this page need a little extra boost for one reason or another. Some may have very specific requests for their new homes. Some have been waiting a long time to meet the right people. Some may have arrived at the TC SPCA with health problems, or with puppies or kitt

ens in tow, and needed extra time and care to be ready to join a family. Our goal is to show off these amazing animals with photos, videos, and information directly from the volunteers who hang out with them every week. Be sure to check out the SPCA's website for information about adopting a new pet and to see all the animals available for adoption: www.spcaonline.com/adopting-pets

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there! We hope your day is filled with relaxation, appreciation, and good vibes.

To celebrate, we’d like to introduce two boys who have given up on future fatherhood plans altogether: Captain Patch Sparrow (white) and Teddy Grahams (brindle). These goofy young guys (both under 2 years old) are living their best carefree lives blissfully free of parental responsibilities 😉. Just friends to play with, adventures to enjoy, and plenty of love to give.

Captain Patch Sparrow and Teddy Grahams are strong, energetic pups who pack a lot of personality into their adorable frames. They’d do best with sturdy family members who can keep up with all the fun they bring. They’re not looking to start a family, they’re looking to join one. Could it be yours?

Stop by the adoptions desk SPCA of Tompkins County to meet these handsome boys and learn more about them or any of their adoptable friends!

Welcome to another and we have a double dose of cuteness today - meet Aries and Shakan!

Aries (1.5 yrs old, pink harness) is the social butterfly of the shelter. Full of energy and vivaciousness, nothing dampens her spirit. Shakan (3.5 yrs old, black and white) is a refined gentleman and can be a little shy, except when he's around Aries. Then he becomes Mr Goofball! And together, they have plans to take over the entire ... playyard 😁.

Both pups are available for adoption SPCA of Tompkins County and would love to find a home soon, maybe even with a 4-legged buddy to run around with!

Happy ! Please allow us to introduce you to Tommy! This handsome hunk of feline came to the SPCA of Tompkins County as a stray about a month ago. After settling in and getting used to the sounds and routine of the shelter, Tommy has made good friends with volunteers. He likes company, enjoys giving head butts and getting scritches. Tommy has some very strong head butt action!

If you'd like to meet this very handsome kitty, stop by the SPCA Adoption Center to set up an interview with him. Tommy is interviewing potential families Wednesday through Sunday, noon-4:30 pm. Or extended hours on Thursdays, noon-6:30 pm.

Avast ye dog lovers and say hello to the Captain! Captain Patch Sparrow, that is. This sweet, young (only a year old!) doggo came to the SPCA of Tompkins County as a stray back in March. His volunteer friends at the shelter describe him as adorable blockhead! He's a nice relaxed walker and not into puppy shenanigans. Captain Patch enjoys ambling walks with time to explore all the sniffs. He enjoys cuddles with his people, playing with his toys, and cheese. He really likes cheese!

The Captain is a strong dude. He's looking for a crew with sturdy family members who can be on board with helping him to develop and maintain his best behaviors, as well as show him the best sniffin' spots available on your walks! If that sounds like you, and you're willing to let this pirate steal your heart, stop by the SPCA adoption center during open hours Wednesday-Sunday 12-4:30 (Thursday 12-6:30). Don't worry about bringing the rum, though; the Captain much prefers cheese.

Happy ! Thursday (June 4) was . 😽 Did you celebrate by hugging a cat? We sent one of our intrepid PAAD correspondents into the cat wing at the SPCA of Tompkins County to assess the huggability of some of the cats who are available for adoption.

Not every cat was interested in being part of this report. That's fair. Each cat has her or his own style and ideas of acceptable behavior from humans. All the of the cats were adorable! Of course. Many were friendly and interested in meeting a new person. Some cats were more interested in napping or monitoring activity outside the windows. Check out this video to see what some of the cats said when asked if our reporter could get a hug. Remember: consent is important!

Are you looking for a cuddly or huggable cat? Please don't let the results of this completely unscientific survey of cat huggability dissuade you from going to the SPCA Adoption Center to meet them! Some of the cats might be more receptive to hugs once they have a secure, loving home and humans they know well. 😼

The Adoption Center is open Wednesday through Sunday, noon-4:30 pm. There are extended hours on Thursdays, noon-6:30 pm.
