Cupid says "I love people! I love to be petted and paid attention to, and everyone loves to pet me! I give sweet little licks/kisses to everyone in the morning to say “Hello! So glad you’re here!” I have cute ridges of fur at the nape and sides of my neck and along my legs, and my ears are both up and floppy. I love to be cuddled and kissed when I am calm (not as much when I am in play-mode).

I have an exuberance for life, and I love seeing what you’re up to, following you around, joining in when I can and also going for outdoor adventures in the yard and on leashed walks. I am a fantastic blend of “happy to be active but also happy to chill out with you!”

I am great with dogs of all sizes and personalities! In my puppy class, I played super nicely with all of the dogs there, even the ones that other pups were scared of. I love having doggy friends and would probably be over the moon to share my new home with another friendly dog!

I am also great with cats! Interested, curious, playful, with no aggression at all.

I am smart! I have learned a bunch of things like Sit, Lay Down, Stay, and Come. I have my own opinions about things sometimes (like what I want to do and not do), but as long as you use positive reinforcement strategies with me (i.e., reward me with treats and praise!), I will usually be happy to do what you ask. And bonus…I do not jump up on people! That is so rare for a pup of my age! When my family goes to work and school, I “crate up” (and get a yummy treat) and even though they are sometimes gone as long as 5 or 6 hours, I make it without trouble. And am so excited when they return!

I like being outdoors! My short fur makes cold weather “BRRRRRR!” but having a jacket or sweater helps a lot! Playing in the snow is fun as long as I have a good coat! When my favorite buddy in the family, the 10-year-old boy, plays outside on his swing, I play alongside him by grabbing onto a hanging rope or by chewing on sticks! We are a great team! When he runs, I run alongside him, and we go as fast as we can. It is so much fun to run and to jump, I think I’d enjoy doing agility classes and I bet I would be good at it!

I am still a puppy, so naturally interact a lot by using my mouth. I have NEVER bitten any person or animal, but need to keep improving my mouth skills, getting gentler and gentler over time. It’s hardest when I’m excited (like when the 10-year-old is laughing and wrestling with me) or when I am overtired, but I am getting better all the time.

My favorite games are “Chew!” (on ropes, on toys, on stuffed animals) and “Chase!” (balls or rope toys, or you, or anything you throw). And unlike some dogs, I always give you the ball back so you can throw it again! Mental stimulation is really fun and great for me, so if you want to teach me tricks (using treats of course), let’s do it!

I am excellent in the car! I don’t get any car sickness and I sleep easily!

Browncoat Cat Rescue has been saving lives for over a decade.
BCR exists as a network of foster homes, and so we are limited in how many cats we can take in by existing foster families. While many are willing to open their hearts and homes, there are always more cats in need.

With a BCR specific land purchase we can create a multi-use space completely focused on the wellbeing of community cats. We plan a Sanctuary space for cats who are unadoptable; a quarantine space for new intakes, space for TNR clinics to reduce pet overpopulation and a more traditional cage-less “shelter” space that can accommodate up to 10 adults and 10 kittens. This gives us more flexibility in who we can take in, and would allow us to save more cats and kittens who would otherwise be ineligible due to lack of space.

The land we want is 65k, and 15k makes us eligible for a land mortgage.

Let’s make this dream come true!

Quiche Lorraine says "Once I know you, I’m a super lovey-dovey girl and an Olympic-level cuddler/snuggler, I LOVE lounging all over you! Basically, I’m a 65-pound lap dog. You can move over and make loads of space for me next to you, and I’m still aiming right for your lap! I am also a head leaner…I love leaning my head on anything nearby–your lap, chest, arm, the side of my bed, the arm rest, even your laptop! I don’t quite get this “personal space” thing, but I’m learning that when you say “Goodnight!” it’s time for me to curl up in my own bed. Which of course is near to your bed. I just really, really love being close to my people.

I’m a super curious girl—one of my nicknames is “Nosey Rosie” because I am fascinated to know everything about everything! If you’re doing something, I’ll be there watching, or sniffing, or trying to help you with it in my doggy way.

I’m food-motivated and smart, which means I learn quickly when I’m set up for success. I know how to “Sit” (especially at crosswalks!) and “Down,” and I’m working hard on “Look!” (at you) when we are out on walks. “Touch!” (your hand) gets me so excited I can get a little mouthy with excitement, but am learning how to manage that energy with gentle guidance from my moms. I respond best to positive reinforcement (treats!) and patience.

Want to know my favorite things in the world? Snuggling (obviously)!! And snack time! Dog cookies…of course! But…celery, carrots, peanut butter, and bananas? Yes, please! I also deeply love toys that squeak, crunch, or give me something to gnaw on.

There are also some things that I don’t like. 1) Being left home alone. Not a fan. It makes me nervous and sad, and I will need your help getting more comfortable with you being gone. I don’t destroy anything in the house (one reason why I do NOT need to be crated), but I’m scared and occasionally have an accident or chew up one of my own toys; 2) Crates are a hard no for me. They panic me and I will squeeze my way out, which is DANGEROUS. That’s how some dogs accidentally strangle themselves, I cannot be in a home where crating is required. 3) I get a little spooked by sudden movements or by people walking behind me without warning, which is why being around kids would be stressful for me/not a good fit. 4) My current moms think that I don’t like squirrels and rabbits, because I bark at them so much, but truth be told, it’s really fun to yell at them, haha!"

Cupid is just so cute!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMyrcB8zh1w

I’m sad that I will have to leave my current family as they have been so fun and good to me. However, I know that I can meet new people who are kind, loving, and fun! As a youngster, I need continued kind, loving, positive guidance so I can keep learning better manners and adult dog behaviors. It would be exciting to have a dog friend in the house or any animals that might help keep me company when the people are away or busy! I am a very loyal and treat-motivated puppy who tries hard and cares so much to be good. I am finally consistently going potty outside (but of course will have accidents in the first few weeks when I go to my new home, like most all dogs do)!

If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca, Syracuse, Binghamton, Rochester, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can’t do home visits where we don’t have local volunteers.

Introducing Topanga!

http://cayugadogrescue.org/wp/2026/06/topanga/

Breed: Chihuahua and Dachshund mix
Gender: female spayed
Age:11 years old
Size: 18 pounds
Good with…
Dogs? Yes!
Cats? Yes!
Kids? Yes! All ages
Hello! My name is Topanga and I am kind playful and I love to give hugs.

History
Topanga was a Valentines gift many years ago. I’ve had her since she was a pup. She’s a sweet family dog and has grown up with us.

Personality
I am so kind and I love to play… I would love a backyard and some kids and animals to keep me company. I love to give hugs; I’ll climb in your lap and wrap my neck around yours and hug you tight!

I am very energetic given my age ( I love to run around as fast as possible…the “zoomies”), but also am a very chill dog who also loves to lay down and relax.

I have basic home training like sit, stay, lay down (I am smart!), and will come when called or go when told “out”. I may be 11 years old but am a pup at heart!

I love to lay my head on your lap, give kisses, and snuggle next to you on the couch when allowed. I’m really smart and love to learn new things.

Cohabitation
I’m pretty independent, but also love company with dogs, cats, kids, and adults.

Medical
I’ve had my vaccines, no past health conditions, no medications.

My Favorite Activities
Cuddling with you!!
Chasing after balls and toys!
Going for leashed walks with you!
Soaking up the sun on a warm sunny day!
Resting on my dog bed or on the couch!
Why I Am Looking For A New Home
My mom is looking for a new home for me because she had 2 kids in the last few year, and one of them has recently been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and needs a lot of extra care and attention and time and energy. Mom isn’t able to give me the attention and love that she knows I am used to, and yearn for. She is very sad, when she tells me that she is just so tapped out at the end of the day and doesn’t have the energy to give me all I hope for. Additionally, my mom and her 2 little kids have to move soon and the new place doesn’t allow pets.

My mom says that she desperately wants to find a new home for me which will be filled with tons of love and time and care and joy and affection. She says she loves me so much, and so wants me to find deep happiness with another person or family.

Summary
If you are interested in adopting me, please fill out an online adoption application and live close to Ithaca, Syracuse, Binghamton, Rochester, or Elmira. We do home visits on every applicant, and can’t do home visits where we don’t have local volunteers.
