Every surgery starts long before the first incision. It starts with a veterinary technician who has spent years mastering their skills, anticipating needs, monitoring vitals, and showing up fully prepared for every patient who comes through the door.

Vet techs are the heart of every OR team, and their skill and dedication make a difference every single day. At some VCA specialty hospitals, we take surgical collaboration even further. Some of our teams include Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) — professionals who earned specialized degrees specifically to support surgeons in the OR.

The result? Less time under anesthesia. Better outcomes. And a team that truly works as one. 💙

Because every patient is somebody's pet — and they deserve nothing less than the best.

Meet this week's Monday Mutt Crush, Thor! Thor has the kind of face that makes you want to stop, kneel down beside him and whisper, “You’re safe now, buddy.” With his gorgeous, fluffy coat, warm loving smile and soulful eyes, this handsome 7-year-old German Shepherd mix has a quiet sweetness that reaches straight into your heart.

At 72 pounds, Thor is a big boy with an especially gentle spirit. He isn’t looking for a whirlwind of excitement or a house full of commotion. What Thor seems to want most is something wonderfully simple: a quiet place, a kind person and the chance to finally feel safe.

Once Thor knows he can trust you, you’ll discover what a special companion he is. A foster who spent time with him couldn’t say enough good things about this beautiful boy, describing him as fantastic, calm, sweet and obedient. Those are the kinds of words that tell you there is so much goodness tucked beneath that fluffy coat.

Thor may be 7 years old, but he has plenty of love left to give. In fact, he may be at the perfect age for someone who appreciates the beauty of a dog who has grown past the puppy crazies and is ready to simply enjoy being your loyal companion. Imagine coming home after a long day and finding Thor waiting with that wonderful smile. Imagine peaceful walks, quiet afternoons and the comforting presence of a dog who is happiest simply knowing he is with his person.

As an SPCA of Texas Senior Sweetheart—a pet age six or older—Thor’s adoption fee is FREE, which means there’s no reason to wait!

Sometimes the dogs who need us most aren’t asking for much. They’re asking for patience. They’re asking for kindness. They’re asking for someone willing to see past their uncertainty and give them the time they need to bloom.

Thor is waiting for that someone.

If your heart has room for a gentle soul who deserves to know what love and security feel like, come meet Thor. You can visit hm from Noon to 6 p.m. every day at the Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center (2400 Lone Star Dr, Dallas, 75212). Thor has been neutered, microchipped and is up to date on his vaccines.

Maybe the safe place he’s been waiting for is with you.

Meet this week's Mutt Crush Monday, Cash! Cash is an 8-year-old Hound mix with the kind of face that makes you want to stop everything, sit beside him, and say, “Well hello there, handsome!” Just look at those big floppy ears, soulful dark eyes, and sweet smile. Cash has mastered the art of looking both wise and absolutely adorable at the same time.

At 47 pounds, Cash is a wonderful companion-sized gentleman with a heart that is even bigger than his ears. He has a fun-loving spirit and an easygoing personality that makes being around him feel wonderfully uncomplicated. Cash enjoys getting out and exploring, especially when there are interesting smells waiting to be investigated. After all, he is a Hound, and the world is basically one giant mystery written in scents!

But Cash isn’t all about adventure. He’s also perfectly happy to slow things down and spend time with his favorite people. A leisurely stroll, a little sniffing, some quality companionship, and a cozy place to relax sound like a pretty fantastic day to this sweet boy.

Cash is the kind of dog who seems to understand that the best things in life are simple: being near someone you love, having a little fun, feeling safe, and knowing you belong. He’s loyal, gentle, playful, and ready to share all that love with someone special.

Cash is looking for a Foster to Adopt family while awaiting a dental procedure. Fostering with the SPCA of Texas is FREE—we provide all the food, bowls, toys, medications, medical care, etc. Cash’s foster family will simply provide love and bring him in for a few scheduled veterinary appointments before he’s ready to put his best smile forward. It’s a small step toward helping this handsome fellow feel his absolute best.

And here’s another reason to fall for Cash. Once he’s ready, as a Senior Sweetheart—a pet age 6 or older—his adoption fee will be FREE!

Could those soulful eyes be looking straight at you? Come meet Cash and see if this sweet Hound mix is the gentle, loyal companion your heart has been waiting for.

Visit him from Noon to 6 p.m. every day at the SPCA of Texas Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center (2400 Lone Star Dr, Dallas, 75212). Cash has been neutered, microchipped and is up to date on his vaccines.

Cash is ready to sniff out his next great adventure. We hope it leads straight to you.

To every person who dropped off a bag, can, or donation at one of our hospitals: thank you! You helped make an incredible difference for the pets and people in our community.

We're already looking forward to doing it again next summer! 🐶🐱💚

Say hello to this week's mutt crush, Delta! Some dogs capture your attention with boundless energy. Delta captures your heart with quiet grace.

With her gorgeous black-and-tan coat, sweet face, and deep, thoughtful eyes, Delta is the kind of dog who leaves a lasting impression. At seven years old, and 65 pounds, this beautiful German Shepherd mix has a gentle spirit that shines softly beneath her shy exterior, just waiting for the right person to help it glow.

Life at the shelter can feel overwhelming for a sensitive girl like Delta. The unfamiliar sounds, constant activity, and changing faces can be a lot for a dog whose heart longs for peace and stability. Because of this, Delta may take a little time to trust new people and situations. But those who look beyond her initial shyness will discover something truly special.

Delta is a reminder that some of life's greatest treasures aren't found instantly—they unfold slowly and beautifully over time.

Every day, she shows quiet courage as she navigates the world around her. Every gentle interaction helps her take another small step forward. Beneath her timid nature is a sweet, loving dog who wants what so many of us want: a safe place to belong, people she can trust, and a family to call her own.

Imagine the joy of watching Delta discover that she no longer has to be afraid. Picture her learning that kind hands bring comfort, that home is a place of security, and that she is deeply loved exactly as she is. The bond formed with a dog like Delta is one built on patience, understanding, and trust—and those bonds are often the strongest of all.

She is looking for a calm, compassionate family willing to give her the time and encouragement she needs to blossom. In return, Delta has the potential to become an incredibly loyal companion whose gratitude and devotion will touch your heart every day.

Behind those soulful eyes is a beautiful future waiting to happen.

As an SPCA of Texas Senior Sweetheart—a pet age 6 or older—her adoption fee is FREE!

Meet Delta at the SPCA of Texas Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center (2400 Lone Star Dr, 75212) any day of the week between Noon and 6 p.m. Delta has been spayed, microchipped, and is up-to-date on her vaccines.

Say hello to this week's mutt crush, Prismo! Go ahead and look at that face. And the shiny white coat with those big, bold black spots. The floppy ears. The tongue-out, full-commitment, absolutely-no-apologies grin that makes it physically impossible not to smile back. That’s Prismo.

Prismo is one year and eight months old, 75 pounds of boundless enthusiasm, and he is ready to find his person and have the absolute time of his life. He loves toys. He loves exploring. He loves learning new things. He loves you—and Prismo hasn't even met you yet. Just imagine what happens when he does.

Here's the thing about Prismo. He's not just a good time. He's a great time with excellent follow-through. Take Prismo on a walk and he'll be the best walking companion you've ever had. Give him a new toy and watch Prismo figure it out with the focused intensity of someone who takes fun very seriously. Teach Prismo something new and he'll nail it, because this guy is sharp and eager to learn.

And then, when the adventure is done and the toys are put away and the walks have been walked, Prismo will happily park himself right next to you and shift into full relaxation mode. Active buddy by day. Loyal couch cuddler by night. The complete package, in black and white and absolutely beaming.

Prismo isn't looking for a complicated life. He just wants his person—someone to explore with, play with, learn with, and love with everything he's got. Prismo will be your sidekick, your hype man, your reason to get outside, and the best part of coming home.

As an SPCA of Texas Longtime Lovable—a pet who’s been in the shelter 60 days or more—Prismo’s adoption is FREE!

Come meet Prismo at the SPCA of Texas Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center (2400 Lone Star Dr, 75212) any day of the week between Noon and 6 p.m. Prismo has been neutered, microchipped, and is up-to-date on his vaccines. He'll be the one with the giant smile, already wagging his tail for you.

Prismo’s been waiting. And he just knows it's going to be great.

Say hello to this week's mutt crush, Carley! Carley has a way of making every day feel a little brighter. Maybe it’s the happy wag of her tail that starts the second she sees you. Maybe it’s her adorable pointed ears that perk up with curiosity at every sound, every toy, and every new adventure. Or maybe it’s simply Carley herself—a joyful, loving girl whose entire heart is devoted to making people smile.

At just more than two years old, Carley is the perfect blend of playful fun and affectionate cuddle buddy. She’s the kind of dog who wants to be wherever her people are, whether that means heading out for a long walk, tossing toys around the backyard, or curling up close for a cozy night in. Her Borrow-a-Buddy family discovered quickly that Carley’s greatest talent might just be loving people with her whole heart.

Carley did wonderfully in a home with kids ages 12 and 15, happily soaking up attention and handing out sweet kisses whenever possible. At bedtime, Carley’s favorite place was snuggled up close as the “little spoon,” proving that beneath her playful spirit is a soft, affectionate girl who simply wants to feel loved and included.

Carley also showed what an easy companion she can be. She walks nicely on leash, coexisted beautifully with a slightly larger dog, and was perfectly content entertaining herself with toys and tennis balls in the backyard. And when playtime is over? This sunshine girl is more than happy to stretch out in the warm sun for a peaceful nap and a few well-deserved belly rubs.

What makes Carley truly special is her genuine joy for life. She approaches every moment with excitement, curiosity, and kindness. Whether she’s exploring the world with her ears perked high or wagging her tail at everyone she meets, Carley reminds you how wonderful the simple things can be.

Now all she needs is a loving family to share it with.

As an SPCA of Texas Longtime Lovable—a pet who’s been in the shelter more than 60 days—Carley’s adoption fee is FREE!

Meet Carley today at the SPCA of Texas Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center (2400 Lone Star Dr, 75212). It is open every day of the week from Noon to 6 p.m. Carley is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on her vaccines.

Someone out there is going to gain a loyal walking buddy, champion cuddler, backyard playmate, and constant best friend all in one beautiful package. And when Carley looks up at them with those bright eyes and happy smile, they’ll wonder how they ever lived without her.

Say hello to this week's mutt crush, Jazzy! Jazzy Is Here, and She Is Absolutely, Completely, Irresistibly One of a Kind. One ear up. One ear flopped. Tongue out. Smile on full blast. That is Jazzy.

A beautiful two-year-old, 56 pound Shepherd Mix, with a heart so big and a love for life so infectious that everyone who meets her walks away a little happier than they arrived. Jazzy is joyful and playful and funny and smart and curious and loyal, and she comes with a Borrow A Buddy review so glowing it practically has its own spotlight.

Here is what one lucky family had to say after spending the day with her: "Jazzy was the most calm, perfectly well-behaved and affectionate girl for our family." She joined them for brunch at Katy Trail Ice House. Jazzy lounged gracefully in the shade at Glencoe Park while their son had football practice.

She came home with them, nailed the whole house visit like a seasoned professional, and melted completely into belly rubs and a good brushing like she had been waiting for exactly that her entire life. Jazzy takes treats gently right out of your hand and is eager to learn. She loves long walks on a leash and people. She is, in a word, a delight.

A total, complete, one-ear-up delight.

Jazzy is an SPCA of Texas Longtime Lovable—a pet who’s been in the shelter more than 60 days—so her adoption fee is FREE!

Jazzy is the kind of dog who fits into your life like she was always supposed to be there. Brunch on a patio? She is the best table companion you have ever had. Lazy afternoon in the park? She is already finding the best shady spot. Evening at home with belly rubs and treats? She will absolutely never complain.

Come meet Jazzy today at the SPCA of Texas Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center (2400 Lone Star Dr, 75212), which is open every day of the week from Noon to 6 p.m. Jazzy is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines.

Say hello to this week's mutt crush, Angelo. He’s a one year and eight months old pup who weighs 41 pounds. Angelo sports a sleek black coat that catches the light just right, crisp white accents, and soulful dark eyes that are constantly scanning the world around him with the focused curiosity of someone who finds everything genuinely fascinating.

This boy is a natural explorer. Give him a new room and he will investigate every corner with the methodical enthusiasm of someone who takes discovery very seriously. Give him a yard and he will learn every inch of it. Give him your heart and he will settle into it like he was always meant to be there, because with Angelo, that is exactly how it feels.

He is smart, sweet, and endlessly curious, with a personality that is equal parts adventure buddy and devoted companion. Angelo loves a good game of chase and tag with other dogs and does beautifully in playgroup at the shelter. He has lived with a cat before and, by all accounts, they got along famously. Angelo is wonderful with people. He is, in short, a social, well-rounded, thoroughly delightful young man who gets along with basically everyone he meets.

Angelo is an SPCA of Texas Longtime Lovable—a pet who’s been in the shelter more than 60 days—so his adoption fee is FREE!

Angelo is looking for a home where the adventures never really stop; where there are new things to discover, dogs to run with, cozy beds to collapse into at the end of a big day, and people who are ready to be loved with the kind of quiet, steady loyalty that only a dog like this can offer.

Angelo isn’t asking for much. Just a place to belong, someone to explore alongside, and the chance to show you every single day what it looks like when a dog gives you his whole heart.

Adopting Angelo does not just mean gaining a pet. It means gaining a loyal friend who will show up for every adventure and every quiet evening with equal enthusiasm and zero complaints.

Come meet Angelo at the SPCA of Texas Dallas Animal Care Center (2400 Lone Star Dr, 75212) any day of the week between Noon and 6 p.m. Angelo has been neutered, microchipped, and is up-to-date on his vaccinations.

Say hello to this week's mutt crush, Maple.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign to add more laughter to your life, Maple is it. With her signature tongue-out grin and natural comedian energy, this 2-year-old sweetheart is basically a walking, tail-wagging stand-up show. One look at her silly smile and you’ll wonder how you ever lived without her.

Maple is the perfect mix of goofy and loving. She’s the kind of dog who will make you laugh with her antics one minute, then melt into your side for cuddles the next. At 35 pounds, she’s a great medium size. Big enough for adventures, small enough to fit perfectly into your everyday life.

And speaking of adventures, Maple is always ready to go. She recently crushed a 4-mile outing like an absolute pro, taking in new sights, meeting new people, and even calmly passing by other dogs and a horse. She rides well in the car, hops in like she’s been doing it forever, and settles in for the journey. Whether it’s a long walk, a road trip, or just a quick pup cup run, Maple is your enthusiastic co-pilot.

She’s smart, curious, and eager to engage with the world around her. Maple does best with a harness on walks since she can get excited and pull, but that just means she’s thrilled to be out exploring life with you. Her energy is joyful, not overwhelming, and it comes with a big dose of affection.

More than anything, Maple is a best friend in the making. She’s sweet as her name suggests and ready to bring fun, companionship, and a whole lot of personality into your home. Maple will keep you laughing, keep you moving, and remind you every day how special it is to be loved by a dog.

Meet Maple at the SPCA of Texas Dallas Animal Care Center (2400 Lone Star Dr, 75212) any day of the week between Noon and 6 p.m. Maple has been spayed, microchipped, and is up-to-date on her vaccinations.

If your life could use more joy, more silliness, and more heart, Maple is ready to deliver.
