A baby elephant nurses by using its trunk to gently nudge its mother’s belly and then latching onto a teat located between her front legs. Nursing is not only how the calf gets the nutrients it needs to grow, but it’s also a comforting bonding moment between mother and baby. Calves usually nurse for several years while slowly learning to use their trunks and eat solid food.
