Rio presented underweight at just 41 grams, with a palpable mass in her coelomic cavity. Female leopard geckos can develop serious complications when developing eggs fail to develop normally, requiring surgical intervention.
Dr. Benson performed surgery to remove a large ovoid mass and several ovarian follicles at different stages of development and resorption, and she was discharged an incredible 7 grams lighter (the equivalent to a 30-pound mass relative to your body size).
Rio’s owners reported at her recheck she’s now feeling “fat and sassy” at a whopping 58 grams. Her smile says it all! We're so happy she's feeling better.
