Mobility Danes of New England, Inc.

Mobility Danes of New England, Inc. Mobility Danes of New England, Inc. is a non-profit organization training Great Dane Service Dogs for mobility.

SDP’s main mission is to breed, raise, train, and donate certified service dogs to people who experience difficulty with their balance or mobility. These partnerships often help to enhance the recipient’s quality of life as they attain greater independence. Preference is given to military veterans, first responders and their families. Our second mission is to serve our local community. SDP’s farm

is a destination for all ages — from teens doing community service, to seniors in search of a meaningful task and social interaction, to military veterans (many with PTSD) who enjoy feeling useful and connected while doing farm chores. Our Road Show project of dogs and trainers visiting senior centers provides much-needed smiles and comfort.

Today, Walnut and Echo visited Concord Carlisle High School to demonstrate their service dog training. Walnut provided an outstanding exhibition of his talents while Echo remained attentive during belly rubs. Following the demonstration, both dogs were ready for a nap.

Healthy starts make strong service dogs.

Here’s how we ensure every Great Dane begins with careful OFA screening, thoughtful breeding, and round-the-clock puppy care. This is why our training can build steady, reliable partners for people living with mobility challenges.

These faces exist because of people like you. 🐾

Every puppy you see here was brought into the world with round-the-clock care from our incredible volunteers and host families. From the very first night of life, someone was there. Watching, nurturing, and pouring love into each of these future service dogs.

That is not a small thing. That is everything.

Our volunteer caregiver families open their homes during the earliest, most critical weeks of a puppy's life. Our trainers take them out to socialize and train, because they believe that a dog can restore someone's independence. And they are right. Over 180 times, they have been right.

If you have ever thought about becoming a caregiver or volunteer, this is your sign. These puppies need you, and so do the people waiting for them.

Walnut recently experienced his first ride in a wheelchair lift. While he has previously walked on and off a lift a few times at the hotel, he had the opportunity to get the full experience on a lift at Guitar Center in Danvers. This video is on his trip down when we left the store, after earlier riding it up when we arrived. He was a little anxious about the sounds, strange movement, and tight enclosure, but he did a great job, and he readily walked right onto the lift the second time around. Many dogs take some convincing to get on the lift again after their initial experience, but not the case with Walnut.

Every great service dog starts right here. 🐾

This little one may look like a sleepy puppy on a sunny afternoon, but behind those spotted ears is the result of years of careful, intentional breeding. Here at Mobility Danes of New England, we don't just breed Great Danes. We breed for purpose.

Every dog in our program comes from OFA-screened parents, meaning we screen for hip and cardiac health before a single puppy is ever born. From day one, our staff and volunteers provide round-the-clock care. This is why our dogs grow into the steady, confident partners that people with mobility challenges can truly rely on.

The process takes about 1.5 years from birth to placement. It's not fast. But it's thorough, and that's exactly the point.

Cricket, Galaxy, and Izzy recently visited with students and staff at Concord-Carlisle Regional High School for a meet and greet, as well as a demonstration. All three girls did a fantastic job socializing with the attendees, and Izzy even asked for some belly rubs once she got comfortable with the environment. The school has been very supportive of our program, even holding a recent fundraiser for MDNE!

Cricket practiced down/stays this morning at HomeGoods with the handler out of sight. She also trained at BJ's Wholesale Club, Guitar Center, and Lo's Seafood and Oriental Market. Prior to going out training, her host family took her to school to meet some teachers and get exposure to crowds of children arriving for the start of the school day. Cricket was happy to get home this afternoon so she can get some solid nap time with her sister Galaxy, who also went out training for a few hours this morning.
