☀️ DOG FEST POSTPONED 🐾

Due to the extreme heat, Dog Fest has been postponed. The safety of animals, volunteers, staff, and community comes first!

DogFest Has Been Postponed

The safety of our guests, vendors, volunteers, and of course our four legged friends is our top priority. After closely monitoring this week's forecast, we have made the difficult decision to postpone DogFest due to the extreme heat.

The good news is that DogFest has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 6! 🍂

We know this is disappointing, but we want everyone to be able to enjoy the event safely. With cooler fall weather, it will be an even better evening to bring your family, your dog, and your friends out to Big Grove!

Thank you to our amazing sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and community for your understanding and flexibility. We can't wait to see you in October for a fun evening benefiting the animals at the Iowa City Animal Care & Adoption Center. 💜🐶

🛁 Our shelves are looking a little bare! 🐾

We are currently in need of:

🐶 Bath towels
🐱 Small, cat-sized blankets
🧼 Washcloths

These items help keep our animals clean, warm, and comfortable while they wait for their new homes. New or gently used donations are welcome—just please make sure they are clean and in good condition.

Donations can be dropped off at the Iowa City Animal Care & Adoption Center during regular business hours. Our animals—and our laundry room—thank you! 💙

🐾 Happy National Dog Day from Raven! 🐾

Raven is celebrating the only way she knows how—showing off her many talents, flashing that beautiful smile, and hoping today might finally be the day her person notices her. ❤️

This smart, lovable girl is still searching for a family of her very own. Raven has so much personality and love to share—she just needs someone willing to give her the chance she deserves.

Even better, Raven’s adoption fee has been sponsored! Help us make National Dog Day extra special by sharing her story. Her future family might be just one share away. 🐶🏡

Feel-Good Friday 🐾💙

It’s Friday, and we’d love nothing more than to send a few dogs into the weekend with something worth celebrating—a home.

🐶 We REALLY need dog adopters AND foster homes.

Our dog kennels are full, and we have some incredible dogs waiting for their chance to get out of the shelter and into a home.

❤️ Looking to adopt? Come meet our dogs! Some may be able to live with other animals depending on the individual dog and the right match.

🏠 Interested in fostering? We are especially in need of foster homes with no other animals. Having pet-free foster homes gives us options for dogs who desperately need a break from shelter life.

Not able to adopt or foster? SHARE, SHARE, SHARE! You never know who on your friends list has an empty couch and room for a dog who needs them.

Let’s make this a Friday worth celebrating. 🎉

Adopt. Foster. Share. Help us get some dogs HOME. 🐾💙

Seven weeks ago, we assisted Johnson County Sheriff's Office with the removal of 32 starving dogs from unsanitary living conditions. In just one morning, we tripled our shelter capacity of dogs. To accommodate the influx, we had to set up temporary kennels in one hallway, and crates took over our critter room. In the days that passed, volunteers and staff poured their hearts into showing these amazing dogs the love they so desperately deserved.

This has been a challenging seven weeks, but seeing the transformation makes every late night, extra kennel, and full hallway worth it. We are so grateful to everyone who has helped these dogs get to this point.

💙The Sheriff’s department for taking a stand for these dogs.
💚The community that rallied when we asked for donations of supplies.
💜The volunteers that changed their plans to show up here instead.
🧡Dr. Oliver at Animal Clinic who donated her time to examine these dogs.
💛The rescue partners who answered our pleas for transfers of these dogs: Adopt A Pal Animal Rescue, German Shepherd Dog Rescue of Iowa, Animal Protective Association of Missouri (APA), Funky Paws Animal Rescue of Buchanan County, and BISSELL Pet Foundation for the connections.

Tomorrow we will share the sweet faces of the adoptable dogs in our care from this story, so if you’ve been looking for your new bestie, you can start here.

What kind of photos do turtles 🐢 like to take?

Shell-fies! 🤳😎

Crush and Sq**rt are red-eared sliders available for adoption! We don't know a whole lot about turtles, but we know these two like crickets a whole lot and are pretty entertaining to watch when the sun comes out.

ALUMNI SUNDAY!

Calling all shelter graduates!🎓

One of our favorite things is seeing where our animals end up after they leave our doors. Today, we want to see YOUR ICAC alumni!

Drop a photo in the comments

Whether they were adopted last week or many years ago, once an ICAC kid, always an ICAC kid.

And who knows… maybe someone scrolling through today will be inspired to come start their own adoption story.

🐾 EVERY PET HAS A HISTORY. THEY’RE LOOKING FOR THEIR FUTURE. 🐾

Some eyes speak a thousand words.

Some tell you they’ve seen a lot.
Some are full of hope.
Some are simply wondering, “When is it my turn?”

Right now, we are bursting at the seams with dogs and cats. Every kennel, every condo, every face represents an individual story.

We may not know every chapter that came before they arrived at our doors.

But we do know this:

Their history doesn’t have to define their future. ❤️

Look at these faces. Look into those eyes. Somewhere in this group might be the dog who takes over your couch, the cat who curls up beside you every night, or the best friend you didn't know you were missing.

🏡 Adopt and give them their next chapter.
🐾 Foster and give them a break while they wait.
📲 Share and help these faces reach the people who need to see them.

They already have a history.
Now they’re waiting for someone to be part of their future. 🐶🐱❤️
