This is going to be long, but you will get a happy ending.

Pack lyfe Rescue in the Bay Area rescues this sweet dog named Benny from Compton, a town located in East LA where he had been living in the streets since he was a pup. One day while trying to eat he was stabbed and sustained severe injuries. This is where PackLyfe Rescue had him transported to a local veternarian and treated for his wounds. An ED nurse in Sacramento was his foster while he recovered from his wounds.

Once healed he was transported to Jackson where he was being fostered by an 80ish young woman. He continued to live there until one night, he left her garage and headed out to the countryside. Acres of vast land and a senior dog from Compton. Wildlife and predators were a huge concern for this dog and we all knew it.

Stanislaus rescue coordinator contacted my dear friend Michele Garfunkel with Jazzy’s Legacy in Jackson, CA. She immediately contacted WIlton Animal Rescue to help find the dog. That was on May 9th where we went to assess the area. We have to say it was pretty overwhelming with all the mountains but again this was a 10 year old slow moving dog, right? Lol.

Well, the founder of WAR walked up and down hills and searched under the trees knowing that there were predators all around.

We continued to follow the vultures flight path and found nothing. We continued to follow the paw prints, none of which were a dog. We came home with a lot of hitch hikers (ticks) that Leon removed from our body (ugh).

The flowing day we went back and did the same thing. Visited with people and one rancher who saw the dog the night before. We walked and again searched the flattened tall grass and looked for prints. Determined we left and the following morning went back out with flyers. Spent hours and 1/2 the day hanging flyers, passing out cards.

Got home and within 30 minutes received a call - he had been staying in a breeze way at a ranch. They startled him, but we thought he would be back so we loaded the car up and headed back. After we got home again, we received a call he had moved to another house and was under the deck. We had the previous family load the trap up and move it.

Unfortunately, the people at the house forgot to put the food away so Bennie grabbed the bag and had himself a good meal. He did not enter the trap.

The following morning a slow leak in the tire required Les Schwab expertise and then we were off after checking another dog trap. We got to the location and thank goodness Bennie had decided to crash there. It was obvious the predators at night bothered Bennie and he was hiding for his safety in these places. We arrived and snuck up on Bennie. That was it for his adventures and we headed back to Wilton with Bennie; letting the rescue know he was safe.

Since then Bennie has been resting, eating, getting a bath, meds to kill, Fleas, ticks, and worms. Nails trimmed, brushed and just all around pampering. We have a check up on Friday and we will be heading back to another veterinarian to get blood work done and to reassess him for any further issues he may have. Bennie has mange and has been running with another pup at the ranch - his new girlfriend or at least she thinks he is cute.

He will be going back to Packlyfe rescue when he is fully recovered. Benny is a wonderful dog and deserves the best. If you want a new best friend - don’t hesitate to put in an application. He is a cutie.
