Some new faces showed up here the last couple days as we are starting to kick off the summer session. We beat the heat this morning and got a little work in to start to connect the dots here in this tracking game with these girls. Always fun getting a new group in and watching them start to put the pieces together.

You should recognize Nova who left training here a few days ago as our spring session ended. Congrats to Nova and her handler Travis on passing the UBT-1 today! Excited to see what these guys can do in Indiana together this fall!

Helped find a calf this morning that had been gone for almost a week. I located him just over a mile away in about 25 minutes lying on the edge of a food plot. So then we sat back and watched Wisconsin cow catcher take it from there! Go over to their fb page and give them a follow if you ever need help catching livestock they made very quick work of this.

You may remember this pup from last years client dogs that I had the privilege to work with. If you are in central Iowa and run into any problems finding your deer this fall this is a team you’ll want to contact!

Ryder had a great 2025 tracking season, and this year we decided to step up and run an American Blood Trackers Association Started certification test on Saturday May 9th.

What makes it even more impressive is since deer season ended, Ryder had only done ONE practice track back in early March before test day.

Ryder absolutely nailed it. Proud of this dog and the natural ability she continues to show.

This was one we tracked several hundred yards with the dog with no blood past about 100 yards. Freyja took us to the edge of an open bog and started getting pretty sloppy on the line which was telling me this deer was no longer stressed. Normally I’d just call the track off at that point but because this bog was quite large and it was my last scheduled track that morning I knew I’d most likely be able to locate the hunter’s deer and show him where he hit and about 200 yards into the bog where Freyja took us there he was bedded up. You can see this wound clear as day through the leg. The arrow never entering the body cavity. This deer showed back up on the hunters camera about a month and a half later perfectly fine. The clarity the drone can show is quite crazy and it’s a great tool when we run into non fatal hits it just gives the hunter more closure then we could with the dog. I had some very cool encounters this year with the drone that I wished I had videoed but I did not. Next year I’ll be quite a bit better about the drone footage.

This is R***r he’s a 9 month old Bluetick Coonhound. He has a great pace and demeanor about him. I’m super excited to see how he can continue to progress in the coming weeks of training and see him tailgate some deer in Iowa this fall. We had a nice little run in with a woodchuck mid way through this track. Never know what kind of distractions and wildlife we may run into on a track. We turn it into some additional distraction work. We can’t replicate every scenario but we try and run into as many as possible while they are here.

This is Pepper she is a 2 year old hound mix. She is available if you are in the market for a started dog. Price is going to basically be a steal. This breeder is not looking to make any money off of her just to get her into a working home and cover some training cost. I trained a pup from this breeder last year who turned out to be a very solid tracker as well and was able to get on deer last year in her new home. She is trained in every aspect outside of tracking as well. She’s great with other dogs and children and for my personal preference she’s a great size for on lead tracking she’s in that mid 30s range. If interested reach out and let me know.

Here is silver lab Nova. She is a big big dog with a lot of energy and she absolutely loves tracking. She will be tracking in Indiana this fall and I can’t wait to see what she can do for her owner. The handler will have no problem with her speed and size but because she is such a big dog I’ve been continually working on slowing her down as she’s still pretty fast even on older tracks. Just to make it more enjoyable to be behind her all day and for her sake to not burn unnecessary energy so she can last all day. Even though she is faster and bigger she is still very accurate and she’s great at self correcting. She’s a super fun pup with a lot of potential. We have several more weeks to work with her yet before she heads back home.

Here is English lab Nova she’s 3 years old. She has been one of my favorite dogs to work with in recent years. She’s all business when on track and her pace is great. She will make some south central Wisconsin hunters happy this fall!
