There are some dogs who come into this world and somehow leave it better simply because they were here.
Jack was one of those dogs. š¤
Trying to find the words to say goodbye to him feels impossible, because how do you put into words everything that Jack was? He wasnāt just a dog. He was a friend, a teacher, a protector, a comfort, and quite honestly, one of the very best souls any of us were lucky enough to know.
Jack was everyoneās comfort dog. He had this incredible way of knowing exactly what someone needed. A gentle presence, a loving nudge, a head to pet, or simply a quiet friend to sit beside you. There was something about him that made you feel safe.
And if Jack was at the clinic, there was a pretty good chance he was going to try to make his rounds. He loved wandering around to see who he could find to say hi to, checking in on everyone and making sure nobody missed their chance to give him a little attention. You could be having the busiest, hardest day, and then there was Jack. Just stopping by to say hello and remind you that there was always time for a quick pet or a little extra love.
He never needed a reason to come see you. He just wanted to be where his people were.
You couldnāt meet Jack without loving him, and it seemed like Jack never met a person he couldnāt find room in his heart for, either.
For years, Jack helped us teach our dog bite prevention presentations. He spent countless hours in schools, surrounded by kids, patiently helping them learn how to safely interact with dogs. While we may have been the ones doing the talking, Jack was the real teacher. His patience, gentleness, and incredible demeanor made him the perfect example of everything a good dog could be.
There are so many children who learned from Jack over the years. So many little hands that got to pet him. So many smiles he created just by walking into a room.
And when Jack wasnāt busy being everyoneās favorite teacher, clinic greeter, and comfort dog, he was right where he belonged- on the farm.
Watching over his chickens, his turkey, and his horses. Keeping an eye on everything and everyone as only the very best farm dog could. That was Jackās world, and he took his job seriously⦠even if part of the job was simply making sure everyone knew he was there and available for some extra love.
Jack truly was the goodest boy.
He had the kindest demeanor, the gentlest heart, and somehow managed to be one of the biggest love bugs you could ever meet. He gave his love so freely and asked for so little in return. A scratch, a kind word, a spot beside his people. That was enough for him.
Everyone who knew Jack has a Jack story.
And everyone who knew Jack loved him.
That is such a beautiful legacy for a dog to leave behind.
His paw prints arenāt only on the floors he walked across or the farm he watched over. Theyāre on the hearts of his family, his clinic family, the children he helped teach, and every single person who was lucky enough to kneel down and receive some of that famous Jack love.
The hardest part about loving a dog like Jack is that no amount of time with them could ever be enough.
We would take one more school visit, one more walk around the farm, one more day watching him keep an eye on his animals, one more stroll through the clinic looking for someone to say hi to, one more tail wag, one more nudge for attention, one more hug and one more chance to tell him what a good boy he is.
But maybe the reason goodbye hurts this much is because we were lucky enough to have something worth missing this much.
Thank you for the years of unconditional love. Thank you for comforting us when we needed it. Thank you for wandering into our rooms and offices just to check in and say hello. Thank you for helping us teach generations of kids. Thank you for watching over your farm and all of your animals. Thank you for every laugh, every memory, every quiet moment, and every bit of love you gave so effortlessly.
Thank you for simply being Jack.
There will never be another you.
The clinic will feel a little emptier without hearing you wandering around looking for your next person to visit. The schools will feel a little different without you. The farm will feel a little quieter.
And there will forever be a Jack shaped piece missing from the hearts of everyone who loved you.
You were so much more than a good dog.
You were the best dog in the entire world.
Rest easy, sweet boy. Your work here is done. Your chickens, turkey, horses, kids, friends, clinic family, and family were so incredibly lucky to have you watching over them all these years.
And wherever good dogs go when they leave us, we hope there are endless fields to run through, animals to keep an eye on, kids to love, hallways to wander in search of someone who needs a little Jack love, and all the treats you could ever want.
This isnāt goodbye forever.
Itās just goodbye for now.
Until we see you again, our sweet Jack Jack. Thank you for leaving this world and all of us a little better than you found it š¤
