Some moments make you look back at where you started and realize that none of it was wasted.
I grew up in 46205, in half of a double, where my mother learned our home had high levels of lead after we were tested and found to have elevated lead levels. At the time, I didn’t understand environmental health, food insecurity, health disparities or why some communities carried burdens that others did not.I just knew it was home.
Today, I have the privilege of returning to communities like the one that raised me and doing work that is deeply personal. Through the NAE Method, Nourish • Appreciate • Elevate, we are helping people understand that wellness is bigger than what is on the plate. It is about nourishing our bodies, appreciating where we come from and elevating the health and future of our families and communities.
To be recognized for this work at the 5th Annual Garry Holland Community Health Fair is truly a full circle moment.
This recognition is for the little girl growing up in 46205 who had no idea that the very experiences affecting her family would one day help shape her purpose. It is for every mother doing the best she can with what she has and every child whose ZIP code has impacted their access to healthy food, safe environments and opportunity.
This is why I do this work.
What once affected my family now fuels my commitment to help change the story for another family.
To the Garry Holland Community Health Fair, thank you for seeing the work, honoring the commitment and allowing me to stand in a community that reminds me so much of where my own story began.
Nourish. Appreciate. Elevate.
This is purpose. This is healing. This is full circle. ❤️
