Some of you are new here so let me explain what IN HOME means. It means lessons are in your home (or wherever we need to practice) and board and trains stay in my home. There is no kennel. They live in an environment similar to home (albeit more dogs) because thats the best way to learn how to be a pet. Training is a lifestyle. And the dogs who live that lifestyle with me are treated just like my own are; structure and consistent rules with plenty of cuddles, playtime and care. I Dont charge extra for meds, walks, cuddles or bones - thats just part of caring for the dog. IN HOME means they are trained how to live in home as polite family members. Livability with your dog is key. P.S. the two on the floor aren't allowed on the couch at home so they aren't allowed on the couch here. 🥰

Oh Pearl. She's on her way to becoming the best possible companion for her mama. In this video we are having her "wait" at the top of the stairs. These stairs are so steep that it is wise to go down backwards. Previously Pearl would burst between our legs as we went down 😬

Before her stay with me she was downright wild. Crazy on leash, ignoring her mom inside and all over the place to the point she has spilled hot coffee on her mom repeatedly. She went home Friday and at our lesson this morning her mom reports that she's everything she could hope for.

I'm proud of this wild child 😁

When i posted a video a few weeks ago of dogs holding a down Luna's (the lab) mom pointed out that Luna is never included in these videos.... she thought since Luna is a nutter butters always on the move and vibrating with energy that she couldn't do it. Well, it may have been 5 years since I trained her but Loony Luna CAN absolutely hold still. Seeeeeee. It took me all of 4 minutes of reminding her how to get this to happen. Also please notice sweet Cooper being so brave right next to the other dogs. He is getting more confident!

Cooper is one of *many* of my clients who behave this way... excessive barking at anyone outside the family. At our consult and our first lesson Cooper barked the entire time. His dad, who works from home, reports hours of barking every day due to living in a lively neighborhood. Even the babysitter, who is in the home multiple times a week, is a subject of Cooper's unending barking.

The barking is a symptom of the root problem; deep insecurity. The world feels unsafe so the dog enters fight or flight.

🌟 In order to resolve the barking we must build the dog's confidence

This took 3 days. 😳 Pearl is wicked smart. I get soooo many very smart dogs in for training. But if they're so smart why do they need a professional to train them? Because if you dont use those brains the wicked smart ones will use their cleverness to find all the loopholes to life. Theyre genuinely TOO smart, to their owner's deteiment. Funnel those smarts into something else and BAM we have the best dog of your life. USE their cleverness to your advantage or they will use it to theirs 😈😈😈

Did you know that once a dog trains with me they are welcome to board with me in the future? I have a lot of regulars that all know the drill by now, and I'm atuned to all their quirks and needs. Here with their fairy Dog mother is the second best place to be other than home 🥰

This is what should happen when you say a dog's name. Winnie however is a true terrier. She absolutely ignored or pretended not to hear when someone spoke to her.

I had to teach her that listening was, in fact, worth it to her. The terrier "whats in it for me?" And "are you gonna make me?" Ran strong in this one. She did what she wanted when she wanted. To the point her smaller human brother was afraid of her and her grown ups were beyond frustrated with her.

When I sent her home she was able to play with her kiddos, eagerly did what was asked of her and easily slipped into life at home. She could even stay out during dinner time without causing a problem.

Why are chihuahuas SO MEAN?!?!

Because we make them that way.

1. No one listens when they say "no thank you".

2. They aren't taught to stand on their own feet.

3. They dont trust the handler to have their back and protect their personal space

Result:

1. a chihuahua MUST be mean to get the personal space they want

2. Being held by owners becomes the only place they feel safe.

Instead:
Put the chihuahua down and ADVOCATE for them. Make the other person/dog respect their "no thank you" and allow the chihuahua a choice in how/how fast they interact

Result: a chihuahua who can walk through an intimidating world with confidence
