Important Prescription Policy Update — Effective September 1, 2026
We want to let our Paw Patch families know about an upcoming change to our prescription policy.
Effective September 1, 2026:
🐾 Written prescriptions for outside pharmacies will be available for pickup at The Paw Patch.
🐾 Our team will continue to work directly with our online pharmacy partner, Vetcove.
Beginning September 1, The Paw Patch Veterinary Hospital will no longer communicate directly with outside pharmacies to process prescription requests. This includes:
🐾 Calling prescriptions into outside pharmacies
🐾 Logging into third-party pharmacy portals to approve requests
🐾 Processing prescription requests by fax
If you choose to fill your pet’s medication through an outside pharmacy, we will provide you with a written prescription to pick up at our office. You can then take or send it to the pharmacy of your choice.
Why are we making this change?
Managing outside pharmacy requests has become increasingly time-consuming. Even after we approve or call in a prescription, our team often has to follow up when a pharmacy reports that it was not received, was denied, or needs to be resubmitted.
We are also seeing increased use of automated and AI-based systems to review prescriptions. In some cases, these systems may flag or reject a veterinarian-approved prescription because they interpret the prescribed dosage differently. This can make it appear that our team never responded, even when we did.
Providing written prescriptions puts the prescription directly in your hands while allowing you to continue using the pharmacy of your choice.
Most importantly, this change allows our team to spend less time troubleshooting third-party pharmacy systems and more time caring for our patients and helping our clients.
We appreciate your understanding as we make this transition. Our goal is to make the prescription process safer, clearer, and more reliable while keeping our focus where it belongs — on you and your pets.
