With the sensitive dogs like this, your timing's gotta be really good.

You've gotta be watching your dog to know if you stepped over and put too much pressure on him.

Hello Handlers

All entries are in. Payment was due on Friday, September 25, but we are extending the deadline to Monday, September 28 at midnight. If payment is not received by then, we will offer the spot to handlers on the waitlist.

We are super excited for this year’s event! We have fun courses planned, a costume contest, a dog contest, and a great handlers' dinner on Friday night.

Remember, the early bird gets the worm!

Best regards,
Robin Nuffer

This dog is sensitive. He may go into the pen and start biting. If I get on him too hard he will probably want to quit. Thats not a weak defective dog, thats just a dog telling me I need to adjust my method.

I'm still going to protect my sheep, but I'm going to have to give him more freedom.

If you have a sensitive dog, don't give up. I know at times it feels like you won't get anywhere with him, but with patience and repetition you can turn him into a solid working partner. I teach a lot about this in Stockdog School.

If your dog doesn't have a solid foundation, then your training will falter.

Zoe's been out in the pasture. I've worked her on cattle. Still trying to get those foundations set.

So in here we work the three pillars of my method. Foundation work.

A DOWN. Down means down.

A BACK, so they release pressure off me and the stock.

And a really nice THAT'LL DO. We're finished.

That's the foundation. Everything else sits on it.
