Happy National Rescue Dog Day!!!
We celebrate our rescue pups every day, but love that there’s an official day for it. 🐶 SO MUCH can be done to help rescues in your area! Of course we LOVE it when people adopt a furry member into their family, and APPLAUD all who are sure to have their pets spayed & neutered to prevent even more animals ending up in shelters. But we understand that many times you can’t commit to a furever adoption, and many rescues and shelters desperately need *fosters*. Can you take one into your home temporarily? Lots of shelters pay for all supplies and fees associated with keeping the dog in your home, you just provide the love & the roof. Many dogs suffer emotionally and behaviorally in shelters because they don’t understand where their owners went, the environment is stressful & they are scared, and they shut down. And, you can always sponsor the adoption fee (or part of it) for a dog.
But there’s so many other ways to support rescues! I don’t think a single rescue would turn down a *financial* donation because they just “already have so much.” We all struggle!! But we understand that money is being stretched thinner by the day, and sometimes there just aren’t extra funds to donate. You can donate your *time*! You can spend time directly with the animals, you can help with laundry and cleaning, you can see what kind of maintenance projects need to be done and offer your *skills* and strength (or at least your stepping & fetching 😉). You can donate *supplies*, whether cleaners or old towels/rags/blankets, dog toys & food/treats, or even a case of water for the people. Are you good at graphic design or marketing? Help them out with fliers, business cards, posts, and ads! Call your favorite nearby rescue (ok who am I kidding? message them!) and see what specific requests they have.
And you know what is the EASIEST thing to do that makes a HUGE difference? Flex that thumb muscle and hit the LIKE button on rescue posts & pages, FOLLOW the page, and *SHARE* them to your own followers!!! Sometimes all it takes is one picture or post to connect a person to a pet!
So whether it is for us here at SBBF (yay!) or any other rescue near you or near to your heart (yay!), *PLEASE HELP THE RESCUES HELPING THE RESCUE DOGS!!*
