CUBBY STOOD UP TODAY!!
He's wobbly and fell over but he stood up again. Still cant see...
UPDATE: Cubby is not doing well. He is stuck in the post ictal stage causing blindness and deafness that can become permanent. He is receiving ROM exercise and massage as well as gabapentin for pain. The phenobarbitol sedates him and weakens his legs as he is still contracted and unable to walk or even stand, but he is still eating and drinking 3 to 4 times a day with 2 BM's so far. He continues to be secluded in the quiet dark. Praying for a miracle...🙏 ✝️
This is a public service announcement: This may help someone so that they will not have to go through what we have.
Please be aware of the side effects/adverse reactions to medications the vet gives your cat or dog.
11 days ago my cat, Cubby was sick. He hadn't been to the vet in a while, so I took him in. The vet suggested an x-ray because he hadn't eaten very well. The x-ray showed inflammation in the neck. The vet thought it may be his thyroid so they did lab work. Results showed an infection, but no idea what infection it was. So, Cubby was given Convenia and an NSAID. Convenia is a longterm antibiotic injection. At 7pm that evening, Cubby was laying the kitchen floor when he suddenly went airborne into a violent seizure. He then got up and ran right into my back door. This was scary enough, but these seizures went on and on. I took him to the emergency vet in Fairmont where they stabilized him and sent me home with injections to stop seizures and knowledge that seizures are an adverse reaction to Convenia. Unfortunately, you can't remove it from your cats system and it can remain in their system for 65 days.
This past week has been hell. Cubby is now on gabapentin, phenobarbitol and emergency injections that dont always work. Thank goodness he hasn't had a seizure for 2 days. However, Cubby cannot walk or even hold his head up. He has to stay in complete darkness and quiet because light and sounds can cause these horrible seizures. He has been fed water and slurry foods with an syringe until today. He can't use a litterbox and has lost 3 pounds. His skin is stretched over his bones with no muscle mass to be found. He has to sleep in the floor in a bumper padded with soft blankets and swaddled so that he doesn't get cold as this will hinder his recovery. He is turned every 2 hours so that he will not break down and is awake less than an hour a day. We don't know if he will recover but we are fighting hard. I've cried every day and slept very little as I am worried about whether he will be alive the next morning. Cubby is only 8 years old and this should have never happened to him or any other animal. Please educate yourself on all drugs being offered to your pets and steer clear of Convenia. If you choose a medication by mouth you can stop it at any time. I am unable to remove this drug from my little guys system that is causing all this suffering.
