🐴 Let’s talk about EPM🐴

Did you know that over 50% of horses in the U.S. have been exposed to the protozoa that cause Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis (EPM)?

EPM is a serious neurological disease typically transmitted through feed or water contaminated by opossum f***s. Because it attacks the central nervous system, early detection can save a horse's career—and their life.
🛑 Watch for these classic signs:
• Asymmetry: Unexplained lameness, weakness, or stumbling that is worse on one side.
• Atrophy: Sudden muscle loss, particularly along the topline or hindquarters.
• Ataxia: General lack of coordination, tripping, or an unusual gait.
• Facial Changes: A drooping ear, eyelid, or muzzle.
If you notice your horse acting "off" or "drunk," don't wait for it to get worse. Call your vet immediately to discuss diagnostic testing and FDA-approved treatments like ponazuril or diclazuril.
