On Saturday a lady who has worked with our shelter for years transporting our animals to rescue passed away from injuries sustained in a car wreck.
Marie Jones had worked for years transporting probably 1000s of dogs & cats from our shelter to Safe Hands Rescue, to find new homes. The amount of animals she helped are huge as the animals she transported were not just from Leslie, but also Harlan’s shelter & Kentucky River.
If we got in a scared little dog or a senior little dog that was scared she took it home. Sometimes the dog eventually went to rescue & sometimes they stayed with her. There have been quite a few scared dogs that we have taken in over the years that she took & worked with and they got homes. Marie was also a good friend who would help you any way she could. There wasn’t a scared dog that she didn’t think she could help. Marie had so many friends in rescue & at shelters; that her absence is going to be greatly missed. The animals will miss her as well.
Our thoughts & prayers are with her family & friends as this was so unexpected & a shock to us all. Marie was a rock for her family & this is going to be a trying time for them.
