Excerpt from Some Heroes Wear Collars

Harry leapt against the window, barking. He scratched at the door. Bits of vinyl and pressboard tore away from the door panel of our 4Runner as he pulled and dug at the door panel. He seemed to be saying.
“Hey, Sally, why are you playing with that dog, with my most favored squeaky flat fox tug? Stop squealing, jumping, and stop cooing to her. I am your Harry! I know you heard me; I saw you jump when I barked, but you keep tugging, dancing and wiggling. That dog watched you until she saw my squeaky fox tug trying to escape behind you. That dog pounced on my most favorite squeaky fox tug and gave it a kill shake.” The car shook as Harry threw himself at the doors.
By the time I returned to the car, there was Harry sitting among the carnage that had been the backseat of my car. He looked pretty glad to see that his efforts had paid off. In Harry’s mind, because of his barking, scratching, and digging, I had returned to him. Harry seemed to smile as he sat, panting, among the scraps of vinyl and particle board that had been the side panels of my car doors.

When Elsa was a puppy, we installed a puppy gate. Not as effective as we had hoped. See how I allowed her to problem-solve without telling her where to go?

Elsa was specifically bred to be a "high drive' or "hunting line" golden retriever. These golden retrievers work well for Search & Rescue work. In this case, she had already been working on this box for a while before I started filming.
