🦸‍♂️🐕 SERVICE DOGS: TWO TRUTHS & A LIE!

You’ve seen the vests. You’ve seen the public access training.
But how well do you REALLY know service dogs? 👀

Which one is the LIE?

1️⃣

A person with a disability can train their own service dog. They are not legally required to have the dog trained by a professional.

2️⃣

A service dog can be removed from a business if the dog is out of control and the handler doesn't take effective action to control it.

3️⃣

A service dog must successfully pass a national certification test before it can legally accompany its handler in public.

👇 LOCK IN YOUR ANSWER BEFORE YOU SCROLL! 👇

🥁 AND THE LIE IS...

#3! 🚨

There is no ADA-required national certification or test that a service dog must pass before accompanying its handler in public.

Service dogs don't need an official certification, registration, or government-issued vest under the ADA.

But that doesn't mean anything goes. A legitimate service dog must be individually trained to perform work or tasks directly related to a person's disability, and businesses can address genuine behavior problems.

🐾 The vest doesn't make the hero.
The training does. 🦸‍♂️

Did you get it right? Be honest! 😂👇

🐕‍🦺 SERVICE DOGS: TWO TRUTHS & A LIE! 🦸‍♂️

Think you know your service dogs? Let’s see! 👀

Which one is the LIE?

🔹 A. A service dog can be trained to perform specific tasks that help mitigate a person's disability.

🔹 B. Service dogs are required by law to wear a special vest or harness identifying them as a service dog.

🔹 C. A service dog doesn't have to be a specific breed to qualify as a service dog.

🤔 What's your answer?

Drop A, B, or C in the comments before checking the answer!

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

🎯 ANSWER: B — THAT'S THE LIE!

There is no federal requirement that a service dog wear a vest, harness, or other special identification.

In fact:

🐾 Service dogs can be many different breeds and sizes.

🐾 They don't have to wear a vest.

🐾 A service dog is defined by the work or tasks it is trained to perform, not simply by how well-behaved it is.

🐾 A dog whose only function is providing comfort or emotional support does not meet the ADA definition of a service animal.

🐾 And yes—service dogs are still dogs! They may make mistakes, have an off day, or need training just like any other dog. 😄

The goal isn't a robot in a harness. The goal is a dog that has been trained to help someone live their life more independently. ❤️
