Hurricane Animal Shelter serves the great community of Hurricane City, Utah. Our building is not only user friendly for visitors and staff, but also caters to the needs and comforts of our 4 legged guests as well. Our successful adoption rates are close to the highest in the state, a fact we are very proud of and work hard to maintain. We are staffed by a Supervising Officer, two full time Animal

Control Officers, two full time Shelter Attendants, and our dedicated volunteers.

***Because more often then not we only have one person in our office at a time. We ask that you call ahead and schedule an appointment before coming to the shelter to either look at our shelter animals, or to meet an adoptable animal. This will ensure that we have set aside an adequate amount of time to make sure the pet you are enquiring about will be a good fit, for not only you, but you for them as well. We also encourage and suggest that if you have other dogs in your household, that we do a meet and greet prior to adoption. This will help ensure the well-being, safety, and correct fit for all animals and family members involved. Most Fridays and Saturdays you can meet some of our cats and kittens at the Petco in Washington City at our weekly adoption event. If you have an animal related emergency, please call our dispatch center (not the shelter) and they will dispatch out an officer for you. 435-627-4999. Thank you!!

UPDATE: MY FAMILY WAS LOCATED

HELP I AM LOST....
This cute fella was found running in the roadway. He was turned in by a concerned citizen that stated she found him in the area of about 3000 S. 1100 W. He is now at the shelter for safekeeping, and to see if we can locate his family. If you recognize him, or are his family, please leave a voicemail at the shelter. The shelter is currently closed for the Labor Day Holiday. We will return your call while we are in the building caring for the animals. Thank you!! 435-635-8314.

We had so much fun bringing out one of our goats currently at the shelter, as well as a couple of our adoptable dogs (Balto and Violet.) They are both super sweet and waiting patiently for their forever homes.🏡

This handsome boy is ready to find his forever home!

Balto is one of the sweetest pups you’ll ever meet. He loves attention, plenty of treats, and his favorite place to be is wherever the A/C is—this hot weather definitely isn’t his thing! ☀️❄️ He also loves playing with his toys and soaking up all the love he can get.

Balto can be selective on his dog friends, so meet n greets are a must. We've learned he used to live on a property with chickens and did good with them but was very interested in the neighbors chickens.

Hi, I'm Violet!

I'm back at the shelter because my last home wasn't quite the right fit for me. I absolutely LOVE my people, but being left home alone all day was really hard on me. I would do best with a family where someone is home more often, or with someone who is committed to helping me build confidence and learn that being alone isn't so scary. With patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement, I know I can keep making progress.

I would also prefer to be the only pet in the home. I have shown some resource guarding around food and other high-value items with other dogs. Outside of those situations, I have done well with another dog while supervised, but I will need a home that understands my boundaries and is willing to continue working with me. My start in life wasn't the easiest. I was originally found abandoned in a house with my two littermates, after we had gone at least a week without food or water. Some of the habits I've developed come from learning to survive.

The good news? I'm incredibly smart and love to learn! I already know sit, down, stay, and I've been working on "watch." Since I'm very food motivated, training is one of my favorite things to do. I'm looking for someone who will continue helping me grow into the confident, happy dog, I know I can be.

If you're willing to invest a little time and patience, you'll gain a loyal best friend, who loves her people, with her whole heart.
