I think my friend Rick misunderstood the assignment… 😂

I set a message to Rick at True Leaf Market and asked if they had any extra seed packets we could give away at the farmers market and farm store.

I was thinking maybe 20 or 30 packets.

Rick apparently heard:

“Send enough seeds to turn the entire county into gardeners.”

A few days later, this showed up. 🌱📦🌱

Now we have HUNDREDS of seed packets to give away for FREE to anyone who wants to grow their own food.

In all seriousness, this is exactly the kind of thing that can make a difference. One packet of seeds can turn into pounds of food, a new hobby, a family garden, or even the start of a lifelong passion.

Huge thanks to Rick and everyone at True Leaf Market for helping us encourage more people to grow their own food.

Stop by the farm store or find us at the farmers market and grab some free seeds before they’re gone!

Some mornings on the farm just remind us why we love chickens so much. 😂🐔

Farmer Jon went out to the truck this morning and found a rooster and a hen perched up inside the wheel well on top of the tire like they owned the place. Apparently the best seat on the farm wasn’t the coop… it was the pickup truck.

Chickens are some of the funniest little creatures. They’re curious, stubborn, dramatic, and somehow always where they’re not supposed to be. One minute they’re helping scratch through the garden, the next they’re riding around the farm like tiny feathered mechanics.

But honestly, that’s part of why we love them so much here at Living Earth Farms. They bring life, laughter, and personality to every single day. They remind us to slow down, smile, and appreciate the simple things. Fresh eggs are just a bonus. ❤️🐓

Farm life is never boring when chickens are involved.

Sunday night Hurricane, Utah reminded us why living and farming in the desert can be both beautiful and brutal. The wind storm that came through hit hard, damaging two of our high tunnels here and many plants. Seeing structures and plants we’ve worked so hard to build twisted and torn up overnight is heartbreaking.

For those who aren’t from this area, Hurricane is actually well known for its powerful winds. Sitting between steep cliffs and open desert, the geography creates a wind tunnel effect that can turn an ordinary storm into something intense very quickly. Locals know spring winds here can be no joke, but this storm was one of the strongest we’ve seen in quite a while. Gusts like these can shred plastic, bend metal frames, and undo months of work in just a few minutes.

Farming always comes with challenges, and nature keeps us humble. Thankfully no one was hurt, and we’ll rebuild and keep moving forward. We’re grateful for this community and everyone who supports local farms through the ups and downs.

If you’ve ever wondered why local food matters, moments like this are part of the story. Small farms fight through weather, drought, wind, pests, and everything else to keep growing food for our communities.

We’ll share updates as we start repairs and get things back in shape. Thank you all for the encouragement and support ❤️🌱

Fresh-picked salad greens from the farm 🌱🥗

There’s something special about greens harvested the same day you eat them — crisp, tender, and packed with flavor. This mix features a couple of our favorite varieties that thrive in our fields this time of year.

One of the most interesting things about growing salad greens is that cooler temperatures actually improve their flavor. When nights are cool, greens produce more natural sugars to protect themselves, which gives them that sweet, rich taste you just can’t get from store-bought lettuce shipped across the country.

These greens were harvested by hand right here at Living Earth Farms and are headed straight to the table fresh from the field. 💚

🎶 “I like big beets and I cannot lie…” 🎶😂

Farmer Jon pulled a couple HUGE beets out of one of our tunnels this week while singing his own version of the song, and honestly… we were impressed. 🌱❤️

The best part wasn’t just the size — it was cutting them open and seeing how beautiful and solid they were all the way through. No hollow spots, no weak centers… just dense, vibrant, healthy beets.

Big, healthy root crops like this are often a sign of healthy, nutrient-rich soil. For a beet to grow this large and stay solid, the soil has to be able to support it over a long period of time with steady nutrition, biology, moisture, and balance. Healthy living soil helps plants keep growing strong instead of becoming stressed or hollow inside.

That’s what we work toward every day here at Living Earth Farms — building healthy soil so the food we grow is strong, nutritious, and full of flavor from the ground up.

Sometimes the soil tells its story through giant beets. 😊🥬

Today we gave our chicken pasture a fresh cut before moving pasture raised chickens onto it. 🌱🐓

We don’t let the pasture get too tall and woody because younger, tender grasses are healthier and more nutritious for the chickens. When grass gets overly mature, it becomes tougher, less digestible, and loses some of the nutrient density that helps support healthy birds.

Keeping the pasture trimmed also helps the plants stay vigorous and productive. Cutting it back encourages new growth, deeper roots, and a thicker stand of grass — which means healthier soil, healthier pasture, and healthier chickens.

Good pasture management is one of the ways we work with nature to raise birds the way they were designed to live: scratching, foraging, and spreading fertility back onto the land. 🌎💚

We’re excited to get this area ready for the next flock!
