🐶 PUPdate: We are asking for all personal pups & pets to stay backstage (at home!) 🏠🐾 Our venue is a food serving, intimate space, and with the approval of being ALL AGES this year, we hope that our supporters understand. But don't worry - we've got your puppy lovin' covered! GHHS will have a few adoptables on site from 3PM–8PM, in the 🌟 GHHS Groupie Row 🌟 (follow the event page for updates!) waiting for YOUR attention and love!

We are so honored to be a community partner of the Rocket City Trash Pandas, and after pulling these two adorable hound mixes from Colbert County Animal Shelter at the beginning of August, we just had to do something to pay homage to our hometown team!

GHHS is incredibly honored to team up with Downtown Rescue Mission.
Two local nonprofits working together for the good of our community.

When animals arrive alongside their humans circumstances may often mean they can no longer remain together. For those situations, Downtown Rescue Mission has entrusted GHHS to step in and provide resources and TLC.

It’s a true balance of what is best for the human, pet, and our community.

Yesterday, that partnership brought Gypsy into our care, a beautiful yellow Lab mix. We can’t wait to get to know her and find her the FURever family she needs 💕

Thank you, Downtown Rescue Mission, for the incredible work you do and for trusting GHHS with the animals who need us.

But wait...there is more!

389 spay/neuter vouchers were provided. 389 🤩
This is not just a number of surgeries. It represents hundreds of potential litters prevented and thousands of unplanned puppies and kittens who will never enter an already overwhelmed shelter system. That is prevention! That is IMPACT!

These efforts were possible by: Petco Love, Best Friends Animal Society, Meow Mix, Evolve Pet Food, KONG, Pet Supplies Plus - Huntsville, Alabama, South Huntsville Veterinary Hospital, The City of Fort Payne, Colbert County Animal Shelter, Florence Lauderdale Animal Services, Friends of Rescue, Marshall County Animal Shelter of Alabama, Dekalb County-AL Animal Adoption Center , Spay Neuter Jackson County Alabama, Scottsboro/Jackson County Animal ShelterBark Avenue Pet Resort, McCurdy Animal Hospital, Huntsville Pet Vet, Lorge Veterinary Services, the volunteers that provided their time and compassion, & the pet owners we met along the way!

PLEASE NOTE: Veterinarians across all 10 counties are working diligently to schedule appointments as quickly as possible. The need throughout North Alabama exceeded our expectations, and we are continuing to coordinate the best options to serve every pet who received spay/neuter assistance through the Challenge.

If you live in Colbert, Lawrence, Lauderdale, or Marshall County and are still waiting for your appointment information, we promise you have not been forgotten! You will be contacted as soon as scheduling is finalized. We appreciate your patience and understanding as our veterinary partners work to meet this incredible community need.

Just like her namesake, Dollie is full of energy, overflowing with personality, and an absolute beauty. She has a way of lighting up a room, and she’s ready to find a family who will let her shine ✨

GHHS will open at 1PM today (Wednesday 8/26) following an all-staff meeting, and we can’t think of a better way to spend your afternoon than meeting our Dollie girl 🦋 💜

She slays it in black/white, as well as in color. And she can also wear catnip on her nose, better than anyone I know! She is, in two words, a STUNNING TABBY.

Matcha is also super friendly. And playful. But with adults only. Matcha does not like children…no sir, she doesn’t. (We get Matcha, we do!)
