Meet Mater! 🐾
Mater is an adorable 3-month-old Dachshund mix weighing around 12 pounds. He’s a sweet, happy, playful little guy with lots of puppy energy and a personality that will keep you smiling.

Mater’s journey into rescue happened completely by chance. His foster mom stopped at a little roadside produce stand to pick up some tomatoes, and there he was. They needed someone who could take him, and one look at that sweet little face was all it took. He came home with her that day, and since a stop for tomatoes brought them together, the name “Mater” seemed pretty perfect! 🍅❤️

Mater is now settling into foster life and doing great. He gets along well with other dogs and is also good with cats. He is very playful and loves having four-legged friends around, although he’s still learning his puppy manners and may enthusiastically invite everyone to join in the fun!

Like any 3-month-old puppy, Mater is still teething, so he’s learning what is and isn’t appropriate to chew on. He’s also off to a great start with house training and is making good progress as he settles into a routine.

Mater loves to play, explore, and be part of whatever is going on around him. He’s curious, affectionate, and still discovering just how much fun life can be. He’ll need a family who understands that he’s still a puppy and is ready to continue helping him learn and grow with patience, consistency, and lots of love.

If you’re looking for a sweet, playful little sidekick who gets along with dogs and cats and is ready to become part of the family, Mater may be your guy. He’s ready for a forever home filled with adventures, toys, cozy naps, and plenty of love. 🐶🏡❤️

Gracie was recently adopted and returned…please read below her fosters thoughts…this is a heartbreaking part of rescue 💔

“I think one of the hardest things about rescue is watching a dog get adopted, thinking they finally found their home, and then watching them come back.

And sometimes I really wish people would just give them more time.

We talk about the 3-3-3 rule all the time in rescue, and while every dog is different, the reason behind it is pretty simple. Dogs need time to adjust.

Gracie was given one week.

One week to leave the home she had gotten comfortable in, move in with people she didn't know, learn a completely different routine, walk in a new neighborhood and figure out what was expected of her.

That's just not a lot of time.

Her adopters had concerns about some of the behaviors they were seeing, and I'm not taking that away from them. Sometimes an adoption really isn't the right fit.

But I also don't think one week tells you everything you need to know about a dog.

Gracie came back into my home and settled right back in. She's comfortable. She's back to her normal routine. She's the same Gracie I knew before she left.

And honestly, that's the part that makes me sad.

She didn't know she had been adopted. She didn't know those were supposed to be her people or that this new place was supposed to be home. As far as she knew, everything in her life had just changed again.

Now she's back in foster care and waiting again.

Hopefully next time she gets a little more time. Time to settle. Time to trust. Time to learn her people and her new routine. Time to actually show them who she is once everything doesn't feel so new.

Because adopting a dog isn't just about bringing them home.

It's giving them enough time to realize they're home. 🐾”
