Meet one of our special patients Sonny who has megaesophagus โ a condition that requires extra care and attention when it comes to feeding and preventing complications.
๐ฉบ What is megaesophagus?
Megaesophagus is a condition where the esophagus (the tube that carries food from the mouth to the stomach) becomes enlarged and loses some or all of its ability to properly move food and water into the stomach. Because food and liquid can remain in the esophagus, pets with megaesophagus are at an increased risk of regurgitation and aspiration pneumonia.
๐ช How does a Bailey Chair help?
A Bailey Chair allows a pet to eat and drink in an upright position, using gravity to help food and water travel from the esophagus toward the stomach. Pets are typically kept upright for a period of time after eating as part of their individualized feeding routine. For Sonny, his amazing family made and brought this one in for his boarding stay!!
Our veterinary team understands that pets with conditions like megaesophagus often need specialized feeding techniques, careful monitoring, and a little extra TLC. ๐ We have the knowledge, experience, and dedicated staff to help care for patients with complex medical conditions and support their families every step of the way.
Thank you Sonny for joining us for your medical boarding stay!! ๐ถโบ๏ธ๐๐
