Have you met Oakley? He is our ambassador of the month for June! Oakley came from our friends The Talon Trust in Evansville, IN, who needed to find a home for him. Oakley was transferred to Soarin' Hawk and has a home with us ever since. Oakley is an red phase Eastern Screech Owl. He is a wonderful ambassador for Soarin' Hawk!

This month, we were honored to feature Nova, our new Peregrine Falcon ambassador, as our Raptor of the Month!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, asked questions, shared our posts, and took the time to learn more about peregrines and the challenges they face in the wild. Every conversation helps inspire appreciation and conservation for these amazing birds.

If you’ve seen Nova recently, you may notice something exciting happening — she’s growing up right before our eyes! Nova is currently molting out her brown juvenile feathers and replacing them with the sleek gray feathers of an adult peregrine.

Molting is a gradual process, so the next time you see her at one of our educational programs, she may look noticeably different than she does today.
It’s an incredible reminder that wildlife is always changing, growing, and adapting — and we’re so grateful you’ve joined us to watch Nova’s journey unfold.

Have you noticed the small bump inside Nova's nostrils?

When peregrines dive at speeds over 200 mph, the rush of air could actually damage their lungs. That little structure inside their nares acts like a natural baffle, slowing and regulating the airflow so they can still breathe during those incredible high-speed stoops.

It’s the same principle used in jet engines to manage intense air pressure—except peregrines had it figured out long before we ever took to the skies.

Peregrine falcons are the fastest animals on the planet, capable of reaching speeds over 200 mph during a hunting dive called a “stoop.” From high above, they lock onto their target with incredible accuracy—and in seconds, the hunt is over.

But it’s not just speed that makes them such effective hunters. Their talons are built for impact and grip, striking with enough force to stun or kill prey mid-air before catching it with perfect control.

While Nova shows here how she keeps those feet and talons clean, it's important to remember that every part of a peregrine is designed for the chase—razor-sharp focus, unmatched speed, and the tools to make it count.

Suns out, tongues out! 😜

Nova may be one of the fastest and most powerful birds in the world… but even fierce hunters have their goofy side.

At our rehab, we get to see both sides of the animals we care for—the awe-inspiring and the unexpectedly adorable. It’s a good reminder that wildlife aren’t just symbols of power or grace… they’re individuals, each with their own quirks and personality.

And honestly? That’s one of our favorite parts of what we do. 🖤

Good morning everyone!

To say that we are "over the moon" excited with the arrival of the 2nd* egg is an understatement! My word for the year is uncharted...we are in uncharted territory, again, with Moxie and Jamie. 48 days have passed between the 1st egg and the 2nd*. Will she lay a complete clutch this time? Only Moxie knows, but Jamie has been persistent in trying to get her "back in the mood".

If she does lay a complete clutch of 4, the expected dates of the other eggs are 5-9, 5-11 and the last on 5-13. Incubation would add another 29-32 days so we could potentially have hatch dates between 6-10 and 6-13❤🤞
