Jessica has been in the vet med world since she was a teen, beginning her journey as a kennel tech and assistant. The vet tech program at Baker College felt like a perfect next step, and after completing her internship with us, she graduated with her degree and obtained her license. She was officially hired, and spent the next 5 years at JVC!

After a brief hiatus from the field, Jess returned to the clinic that had always felt like home. Welcomed back as a technician, she eventually accepted the position of inventory manager and works alongside the rest of the leadership team, greatly improving our efficiency and keeping us on par with current medicine. She really enjoys collaborating with the doctors and fellow leadership to initiate new protocols to improve patient care!

Jess is well known around the clinic as the “positivity fairy”, and has the ability to light up any room she walks into. She puts a positive spin on even the busiest and most chaotic of days, and uplifts and encourages the team through any and everything. As a technician, she pushes herself to continue learning, and prioritizes the best medical practices to improve our overall standard of care. She leads clients through the hardest of situations with her knowledge and compassion. We are so grateful she’s back on our team!

Not only is Sara a licensed veterinary technician, she is also our practice manager! After completing her internship with us, graduating from Baker College, and obtaining her license, she was hired on as a full time LVT. Eventually, she accepted the position of practice manager, and celebrated her 14th work anniversary this year. She is the glue that holds our team together, gently guiding us to be the best versions of ourselves.

When she isn’t leading meetings, handling payroll, the team schedule, and all the other things that come with being a practice manager, Sara can be found lending a hand to the rest of the team. "How can I help?" is a common refrain, especially on busy and stressful days. She knows the answer to almost every question, and she exudes strength, calm, and positivity.

Sara loves client education and surgery, and is especially fond of dental cleanings! Her technical skills and experience are an invaluable asset to the team, and she shares her knowledge with humility and kindness. We wouldn't be the team we are without her in the driver's seat! Thank you, Sara, for everything you do! We appreciate you!

Meet Maycie! As an animal lover with a passion for exotic pets, Maycie always felt her path would lead into zoology. She grew up surrounded by animals, often accompanying her mom to the vet with her childhood pets. When she discovered the role of a veterinary technician, she realized she was being called into vet med and began to pursue her degree and license. She was an intern at JVC in 2023, and was hired on as a licensed vet tech right after graduation from Baker College!

Maycie is a quick learner, a natural problem solver, and approaches each day with energy and humor. She is happy to share her knowledge, often helping train new team members with kindness and patience. She has a way with words, relaying complicated information clearly to her teammates and clients. She loves working with the doctors to diagnose and treat patients, and finds joy in making a positive impact on their lives. Maycie is versatile and a huge asset to the clinic, happily lending her skills wherever they’re needed!

With over 30 years of veterinary medicine experience, Danielle is a major asset to the JVC team! As one of our lead technicians, she takes a special interest in patients who may need more support than the average pet. Anxious and fearful pets don’t phase her, and she’s always willing to spend extra time with these patients and their owners. She's passionate about client education, and can often be found chatting with owners to put them at ease in difficult moments.

Danielle had known Dr. Jelsema for several years prior to coming to work here at JVC, and wanted to be part of a clinic that values its team and practices excellent medicine. The atmosphere at JVC was just what she was looking for, and she has been here for 5 years! Recently, Danielle has been especially interested in end-of-life care for our elderly patients, putting into practice her desire to support clients and pets as they navigate this sensitive time.

With over 15 years of vet med experience, Samantha is a gifted veterinary technician that has been with JVC for the last 7 years! She is deeply compassionate, not only to the patients in her care, but to their owners. Sam brings a grounded sense of peace to the team, supporting and encouraging everyone around her.

When Samantha became part of the JVC team, she knew she’d found a clinic to call “home.” She loves the fear-free culture, and believes that our patients receive the best care possible in the most comfortable way! Sam is a true team-player, and an excellent example of embracing our core values. She’s flexible, and happily helps out in multiple roles throughout the clinic, going wherever she’s needed. Most recently, she has enjoyed working closely with our cardiology patients alongside Dr. Clarke, ensuring their visits with us flow smoothly and efficiently.

Today we're celebrating Elyssa!

Elyssa is a graduate of Baker College and licensed veterinary technician since 2017. We were lucky enough to have her as an intern, and she's been here ever since! She has loved animals for her whole life, and since she grew up only having a cat, it's a dream come true to be around so many pets at work every day.

Though she rotates to many positions at JVC, her favorite part of the job is utilizing her nursing skills in surgery. Her knowledge and experience have guided many cats and dogs safely through surgical procedures and hospitalizations. She finds it extremely rewarding to help sick pets feel better, and loves the way patients greet their owners after a day under her care.

Elyssa is known for her calm and patient demeanor, and we all know we can depend on her, she is truly a team player! Her smile and easy laugh have gotten us through many rough moments, and JVC wouldn't be the same without her. Thank you, Elyssa, for all the ways you make our team better!

Meet Erin, one of our lead technicians! Though she says her favorite part of the job is advocating for patients, we’re pretty sure she also loves getting stuff off of high shelves that we can’t reach, and we affectionately refer to her as Terin (Tall Erin).

In high school, Terin began working at JVC, eventually going on to earn her associates degree in veterinary technology through Baker College and becoming licensed. Over the next 8 years she grew in her role as a vet tech, and was eventually promoted to the position of Lead Technician!

Terin leads with a wealth of knowledge and confidently tackles whatever comes our way, designing protocols and collaborating with doctors to ensure we are ready for everything. She is especially passionate about emergency medicine, and has led the team through many high pressure situations. She has never stopped learning new things and holds herself to an incredibly high standard, inspiring the rest of us to improve patient care at every opportunity.

Meet Mina!

Mina has been working in the veterinary world for 10 years, and JVC has been blessed to have her for 9 of those! A graduate of the Veterinary Technology Program at Baker College, Mina is known around the clinic for her wisdom, her impeccable technical skills, and her ability to soothe even the sassiest cats. Everyone knows who to find if they need help with a feline friend! She is passionate about keeping her patients comfortable, and incorporates fear-free tactics into every appointment.

Mina was led to veterinary medicine naturally, and has loved animals since she was little. Her great-grandfather was a farm vet, and she was told stories about him growing up. Eventually, she would decide to carry on the vet med legacy, becoming a licensed veterinary technician. We’re so glad she did! Happy tech week, Mina!

We are celebrating our Veterinary Technicians this week! A critical part of veterinary medicine, our vet techs are highly skilled and educated in all areas of veterinary nursing. From assisting in surgery to reading a cytology, educating clients and making your pets feel safe, they really do it all!
