St Croix Golden Retrievers Future

Please read if you are on our waitlists or wanting a puppy!

As of right now we have only one active breeding female, Scout, for the next 1-2 years. We have none up and coming as of now.

We have had a lot of losses this year-

We lost Aspen at 4 years old. She was a breeding dog, always a family dog though first and foremost, but it did put a dent into breeding plans.

Scout’s breeding didn’t take- we will try again this winter.

Vera can’t be bred.

And Raine won’t pass her OFA elbows.

If you are looking for a pup, I can recommend you to other breeders! Or if you find a breeder I can help you vet them for health testing, pedigrees, etc! And I have 2 amazing studs, Enzo and Everest, that get used with outside females and if they have availability I can send you their way!

My heart hurts. I am defeated. Breeding is not easy and it’s not for everyone. There are so many things out of your control and it’s hard to not beat yourself up over it. We have grown so much over the last few years and the hopes things will continue to grow but we have gone down. The hardest part is letting all the puppy families down and not being able to provide them one of our puppies. That’s why I became a breeder- I fell in love with the breed and wanted families to have healthy, loving perfect family members.

Unfortunately Raine’s elbows won’t pass.

Eyes, heart, and hips all passed.

Raine had an injury when she was under a year old, her right leg, and we did two occasions of x rays and they got sent to ofa and they passed. With some kennel rest she was fine.

There’s a chance the injury is the cause for the elbows not passing as it’s only the right elbow not passing, the left is perfect.

But also a chance it wasn’t the injury and it’s just happening to the right elbow and not the left.

Raine will not be bred. We have and never will breed a failed health tested dog. We have high standards for our breeding program.

The vet said an CT/MRI is a possibility to see if we can find the source of the problem or show if it was an injury. She has some siblings getting OFA’s done soon that I will keep an eye on as well.
