Between taking care of does and kids, milking and dealing with the ever changing Michigan weather, I have had little time to update. I will spare the details, but we have had 4 more does fresh since last post.
Last Friday I had to call the vet out for 2yo2F Cause who I just couldn't get fully dilated. She was open enough when he got there we could pull the first kid, but the second threw us both for a loop. Only a leg was presenting, and it bent all directions. Eventually a DOA kid was pulled that was missing its eyes and had no joints. A "Noodle kid" it was called. No tears in my doe and one live buck kid.
Next came FKN Teddy. And wouldn't you know it. For the 2nd year in a row I get 2 does!! Easy delivery. Thank you Teddy.
Yesterday was both good and bad. We'll start with the bad and make it short. I had one AI doe due on the 28th of Feb, but she was found bloody about 3 months ago so it was assumed she aborted. Well, lo and behold, yesterday, after spending most of the day in the barn with zero signs I walked out to feed last night to find her down in a corner with a head sticking out. Kid was gone so I got it pulled and sat there in amazement. 12 days past her due date that we all were sure she aborted from. Sad thing. My doe is fine, but almost no milk. Only time will tell if she ups production.
But before that, a much anticipated freshening 3 years in the making. Egypt is a 3yo FF who I kept dry her first year to show but didnt have a trailer big enough to haul everyone so she was left at home. She was bred to be a 2yoFF, ultrasounded as pregnant but either absorbed or aborted them and didnt freshen. This was her last chance. Egypt is a huge doe with my foundation Alpines on both sides of her pedigree and the excitement Ive had while waiting has been driving me crazy. FINALLY after 3 years waiting, she kidded yesterday. Our SEVENTH SET OF TRIPLETS!!! Her udder is everything I have hoped for and I am looking forward to getting her in the ring this summer.
We have several top quality doe kids available, and one American buck kid. Message me or the farm page for more info!
