The story of Bus. The puppy we couldn’t save.
We have sat here all day, sick over his loss. Left with more questions than answers.
Was he supposed to die in our arms? Why not the day before? He made it all the way here.. for us to fall in love with him? to leave us far too soon… How long was he suffering? Why didn’t he get help?
A seven month old Corgi… 7 months 😭… Yet the emergency veterinarian spoke of him as if he had lived yearsss of heartbreak. His paw pads were disgusting, filthy, caked in f***s, his teeth were awful, he was frail. The vet said his body told stories of what his living conditions must of been. He traveled farther than any dog should have to, just to feel love. We chose to believe he made it to us for a reason. That he was meant to experience love & rescue and not didn’t die alone, in a dark kennel somewhere, unloved. Instead he was embraced by the love of countless volunteers, staff and rescuers. He tried so hard to perk up, wag his tail or give kisses, but would quickly collapse in exhaustion… we cried. It’s like he wanted us to know a little of his personality, before he closed his eyes for the last time. We got to show him love for 6 hours and 32 minutes. And we’ll love him forever.
As we continue to examine and triage the other 90+ dogs who arrived alongside him, we are asking for your support, whether it’s a donation, a foster application, sending prayers, love, supplies, or joining our life saving monthly donation program, we are grateful for it all.
When our cups are empty, we turn to our community to find strength and refuel. Today is one of those days.
It’ll take some time for us to fully process the sadness of loosing Bus, and the frustration we have towards a system that doesn’t protect these beautiful, loving animals. Humans failed him. But we don’t have time, we have dozens of dogs waiting on us, in critical need of veterinary attention. Baby Girl is resting after emergency surgery today, speciality appointments that will have to be made, we need to recruit fosters and simply put, we need to rally.
Can you help? For Bus, for Baby Girl, for all?
* Donate - We are hoping to raise $150 for each of the dogs welcomed to offset immediate expenses, $14,440 - We are around half way there!
* Foster - Many of the dogs welcomed are in need of foster homes to welcome them & show them love & kindness, you can apply on our website.
* The Pack - Our new Monthly Donation Program, is truly what will help us be more sustainable and provide the care they need. For as little as $10 a month you can be part of this life saving community.
We will love you forever, Bus. We are so sorry help didn’t come sooner. 🌈✨
