💔9/23-Sadly, Roo was euthanized today for space. We’re so disappointed that this good boy didn’t make it out. 😞

‼️The shelter has changed their euthanasia policy resulting in losing dogs without warning on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.‼️

9/22-Roo is a funny, curious guy and he’s ready to join you in whatever you’re doing! His big ears will take in all your secrets, but don’t worry, he won’t spill them. 😉 Roo is ready to get out of the shelter. Can anyone help him?

8/20-Sage is a typical happy puppy with lots of zoomies and energy. She’s already spent almost half her life in the shelter so she’s wondering what else is out there. This good girl needs someone to spoil her and show her what she’s missing!

Today is one of the last opportunities to complete Harris County’s FY2027 Budget Priorities Survey, and this is one of the few direct opportunities residents have to influence how county funding is allocated, including funding for Harris County Pets and animal welfare programs.

Harris County is one of the largest counties in the United States, yet Harris County Pets operates with one of the lowest levels of animal shelter funding (per capita, per square mile served, and per pet intake-- three ways to measure budget to scale) among large municipal shelters in the United States. of any large municipal shelter in the country. That level of funding simply does not match the need. It makes it harder to provide quality care for homeless pets, recruit and support foster families, market animals for adoption, expand lifesaving programs, provide adequate staffing, and improve outcomes for the thousands of animals who enter the shelter each year.

If you have ever:
• fostered a pet
• adopted a rescue pet
• volunteered at the shelter
• rescued a stray
• networked an urgent animal
• reported loose animals, cruelty, or neglect
• worried about pet overpopulation in our community
• cared about the lives of homeless pets in Harris County

…this survey affects YOU.

Harris County leaders need to hear that residents believe animal welfare should be a higher budget priority!

When completing the survey, please consider making increased funding for Animal Services and Harris County Pets your top priority for the FY2027 budget.

A few important notes:
• You must be a Harris County resident to participate.
• The survey closes Friday, but no closing time has been announced, so please complete it as soon as possible.

It only takes a few minutes, but a strong community response can make a real difference when budget priorities are discussed.

The animals don’t get a vote, but we do. ❤️

🌀9/1-Jayce is out of the shelter thanks to UltiMutt RSQ! And even better, they saved his kennelmate too! 🐾🐾

Please see our comment in the post with his freedom pic and how you can honor your pledge. Thank you!

8/17-Jayce has a RESCUE hold!

8/13-Jayce is one of the longest stay dogs and he needs a plan soon! Is anyone able to foster or adopt? We’re afraid he’s going to end up euthanized soon!!

‼️The shelter has changed their euthanasia policy resulting in losing dogs without warning on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.‼️

7/23-This happy wigglebutt is Jayce and he’s excited to have a visitor! He was picked up as a stray shortly before the 4th of July so at least he wasn’t wandering the streets as fireworks were going off. This boy is goodnatured and ready to find a home!

🌀7/30-Remmy is out of the shelter with his rescue group!

7/25-Remmy has a RESCUE hold! Keep following until he’s out!

‼️The shelter has changed their euthanasia policy resulting in losing dogs without warning on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.‼️

7/18-Remmy is a handsome, fluffy boy who is familiar with this place because he was adopted from here in May, 2022. Unfortunately, he was picked up as a stray a few weeks ago and his owner never claimed him.

Even more aggravating, when Remmy was adopted, his heartworm treatment was sponsored and the adopter DIDN’T FOLLOW THROUGH. This poor guy STILL has heartworms! 🙄🙄 Remmy deserves a better owner and a happy life far away from the shelter!
