Nancy Hurrell – Renaissance Harp Ensemble

Play in our virtual Renaissance Harp Ensemble! Nancy will introduce historical harp technique, tuning and harp models. Then we’ll play (muted) with her on two of her multi-level arrangements that were performed by her students in the Brandeis University Early Music Ensemble: “Browning Madame” from Historical Harp Collection, Vol. 2 and “La Rosa Enflorece”, from Historical Harp Collection, Vol.3. The music pdfs will be available to download at the session (no charge) or you can purchase the music ahead of time from Melody’s. Intermediate level; all types of harps are welcome.

Nancy Hurrell performs on historical and modern harps in New England. She taught a Renaissance harp ensemble class at Brandeis University for eight years and has been a guest teacher at the Boston Conservatory, Tufts University and Wellesley College. As a harp historian, Nancy was a consultant to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts for twenty years demonstrating historical harps in the collection in gallery talks, and her book on the nineteenth century harp maker John Egan is The Egan Irish Harps: Tradition, patrons and players (Four Courts Press, 2019). She has seven books of music published by Afghan Press. www.hurrellharp.com
