Braescroft Animal Clinic

Braescroft Animal Clinic 🐾Small clinic, big heart ❤️🐾 Welcome to Braescroft Animal Clinic, located in southwest Houston. Drs.

At Braescroft Animal Clinic we believe that while you make your pets happy, together we can keep them healthy. We are a small animal and exotics clinic, offering exams by appointment for both well and sick patients, surgery, and dental health care. Special needs such as drop-offs can be accommodated when necessary. Lisa Lowenstein and Dr. Caroline Graham along with their experienced staff believe

in the family doctor philosophy, and enjoy getting to know our clients and patients as individuals and friends. Client education is a major emphasis, because we know that an informed client is a better partner in their pet's health care. Our goal is to help our patients grow and mature from puppies and kittens into adults and finally seniors while keeping them healthy and happy. While we can diagnose and treat a variety of conditions, our doctors understand that there are times when our patients are best served by referring to one of our areas specialists or our emergency clinic. We're glad that you have visited our website, and we look forward to welcoming you to our family at Braescroft Animal Clinic.

National Pet Fire Safety Day (July 15th) highlights the importance of protecting our animals from house fires. With 500,000 pets affected annually and 1,000 fires accidentally started by pets themselves, it is crucial to identify hazards and include your furry family members in emergency plans.

Take these critical steps to minimize risks:

🔴 Fire-proof your home:
Secure loose wires, use flameless candles, and cover stove k***s to prevent accidents.
🔴 Keep pets near entrances:
Confine them near doors when you are away and keep leashes nearby for quick rescues.
🔴 Use a pet alert window cling:
Place an updated emergency sticker on your front window listing the number of pets inside so firefighters know who to look for.
🔴 Practice an emergency plan:
Identify exits for every room, establish a rendezvous point, and practice safely evacuating your pets.
🔴 Update microchips and ID:
Ensure your pet's microchip and collar tags are current to help reunite you if they bolt during the chaos of a fire.

Help us celebrate Peanut the Clinic Cat's Birthday! 🎉

Peanut told us she wants all the cats to feel the love for her birthday month! 🫶🐈

For the entire month of July, BAC will offer 15% off feline senior blood panels. Feline senior blood panels are preventative health screenings for older cats (typically 7 years or older). Their primary benefit is early disease detection, allowing our vets to identify and manage age-related conditions—such as kidney disease, diabetes, or hyperthyroidism—long before outward symptoms appear, ultimately extending your cat's life and improving their quality of life. Please give us a call to schedule!

We will also be running a donation drive throughout the month to gather supplies and donations for local cat shelters. If you would like to bring supplies to the clinic (cat food, litter, toys, treats) or make a monetary donation, Peanut will thank you herself!

Thank you so much for helping us celebrate Peanut and all the cats this month! 🧡

🚨 PET HEALTH ALERT: New World Screwworm Awareness 🚨

Veterinarians in Texas are on the alert for the New World Screwworm (NWS), an invasive pest that can have a devastating effect on pets. The NWS is a type of fly larva that feeds on living tissue in warm-blooded animals.

Infestations typically occur in open wounds, including small scratches or insect bites. The larvae burrow into the animal's body, which causes severe pain and secondary bacterial infections. NWS infestations can be fatal if left untreated.

Watch your pets closely for:
▪️Wounds or sores, even minor ones.
▪️Swelling, discharge, or changes in skin around a wound.
▪️A foul odor coming from the wound.
▪️Pets licking or chewing at a wound more than usual.
▪️Changes in appetite or activity levels.

Preventive Measures:

▪️Regularly inspect pets for cuts or scratches.
▪️Keep wounds clean and covered.
▪️Follow your veterinarian's guidance on insect protection.
▪️Be aware of areas with reported infestations when traveling.

Fireworks. Thunderstorms. Panic.

If your pet struggles with loud noises, you’ve probably tried medications like trazodone—but sometimes it’s just not enough.

We now offer Sileo® gel, a fast-acting, targeted option designed specifically for noise aversion and anxiety in dogs—and one that was recommended to us by a veterinary behaviorist for these situations. Unlike traditional sedatives, Sileo works by calming the brain’s stress response without heavy grogginess, helping your pet stay more relaxed and more like themselves.

When to consider Sileo:
• Fireworks and holidays
• Thunderstorms
• Sudden loud noises
• Pets that don’t respond well to trazodone

Don’t wait until the next storm hits—these events are predictable, and planning ahead makes all the difference.

📞 Call us today to discuss whether Sileo is the right choice for your pet and get a plan in place before the next big noise event.

Your pet doesn’t have to suffer through the fear. Call us today (713) 721-8081
