Thirty seconds, and that brain finally switches off 😴

Take the ear flap between your thumb and finger, start at the base and work slowly out to the tip. Slow, steady, no pressure.

There are nerve endings running right through there, and working them releases endorphins. Same reason a head rub works on us.

With a breed this switched on, having something that settles them in half a minute is worth knowing.

Two minutes a week, and it's the difference between catching something early and catching it late 👀

🖐️ Lymph nodes. Under the jaw, in front of the shoulders, behind the knees. With a coat this thick you'll never see it, so you have to use your fingers.

😴 Breathing while they sleep. Properly asleep, not dozing. Count for 30 seconds and double it. You want it under 30 a minute, and if it creeps above that and stays there, call your vet.

🦷 Teeth. Lift the lip once a week. Tartar, red or bleeding gums, a broken tooth, anything that's changed.

You're not diagnosing anything. You're learning what normal looks like on your dog, so you spot it the day it stops being normal.

Nobody buys a poodle a chew, and then the vet finds tartar at four 👀

The ones who do reach for antlers or hard nylon, and that's exactly why vets see cracked teeth.

Here's what I do instead 🥒

Cucumbers cut into spears, covered in bone broth, left in the fridge overnight so it soaks all the way in. Then straight into the freezer.

Frozen is the trick. Firm enough to give the gums real work, never hard enough to put a tooth at risk. And it turns a ten second snack into a ten minute job.

⚠️ Plain broth only. No onion, no garlic, no salt. Check the label.

Four ingredients, and you can pronounce all of them 🍠

Two cups of ground turkey, a cup of mashed sweet potato, two eggs and a cup of rice flour. Two teaspoons of ground flaxseed if you have it.

Mix it, roll it into sticks, lay them on a lined baking sheet and bake at 350°F for 25 minutes.

Let them cool all the way before they go anywhere near your dog. They keep four days in the fridge or two months frozen.

Two ingredients, and one of them is a watermelon 🍉

Slice it in half, scoop a hollow into the middle, cover it and freeze it overnight. The next day pour plain kefir into the hollow and mix it through the frozen fruit.

Two minutes and it's done.

The kefir brings live probiotics, and a scoop of Iron Paws stirred in makes it a greens smoothie she thinks is a treat.

⚠️ Seedless watermelon and plain unsweetened kefir. A few spoonfuls is a serving.
