Making Custom Philadelphia Flyers Dog Accessories | Part 1 🏒🧡

A customer recently reached out asking if I could make some custom Philadelphia Flyers dog bandanas, and I was SO excited when she told me that two of them were actually going to be gifts for a player on the team! Apparently, several Flyers players have Great Danes, which makes this even more special. 🥹

Since she wanted a specific NHL team print, she took advantage of my send-in fabric program! Customers who purchase and send me their own fabric receive 30% off the items they order.

What started as a request for a couple of personalized dog bandanas turned into FOUR custom bandanas, THREE drool bibs, and TWO matching bow ties!

For Part 1, I'm taking you through some of the behind-the-scenes prep work, cutting and ironing all of the fabric before I start sewing everything together.

One of my favorite things about owning a handmade dog apparel business is getting requests like this. Whether it's a specific sports team, a special occasion, or something you just can't find in stores, I love getting to turn someone's idea into something made specifically for their dogs.

And the fact that some of these accessories could end up being worn by a Philadelphia Flyers player's Great Danes?! SO COOL. 😂

Have you ever tried turning a human raincoat into a dog raincoat? Because that’s exactly what I’m doing for this custom Great Dane Halloween costume!

My customer is dressing up as Pennywise from IT for Halloween, and her dog is going to be wearing the iconic yellow raincoat with a red balloon.

She found a 3XL human raincoat on Amazon and asked if I could alter it to fit her dog rather than making one from scratch.

She had a few specific requests, too. She wanted to keep the buttons along his belly, have Velcro running up his spine so it would be easy to get on and off, keep the detachable hood, and have some way to tie everything up and out of the way for potty breaks.

I love projects like this because they’re different from what I normally make and the processes I use, so it was fun to imagine it like a puzzle I had to take apart and put back together to make a new shape.

This is part one of the process, and I’m taking you along for the transformation! I can't wait to see how the whole Pennywise costume comes together.

Before I can start cutting fabric and sewing, I have to figure out how to turn an idea into something a Great Dane can actually wear! 🐾

This costume is inspired by a pretty iconic character, and I have a feeling some of you will recognize it before I even finish drawing. 👀

It made me think of you. 💔🐘

This time last year, I was making my very first custom Dumbo costume, and Dior was right there with me.

Dior was the reason I started Dymond's Co. He was my bestest guy, my soul dog, and the one who understood me in a way I don't think I'll ever be able to put into words. We just *got* each other.

When I received another order for a handmade Dumbo dog costume this Halloween, I should've been excited. And part of me was. But out of all the custom costumes I had to make this season, this was the one I was looking forward to making the least.

Not because I didn't want to make it, but because I knew exactly who it would remind me of and I was afraid of the way I would feel.

Last year, Dior was here. He was wearing those oversized elephant ears, helping me bring another crazy idea to life, and being the best model I could've ever asked for.

This year, it was Fendi.

And while Fendi has brought so much joy back into our lives and continues to show us the most uncanny similarities to his big brother, he will never replace Dior. Nor would I ever want him to.

I can love Fendi with my whole heart and still wish more than anything that Dior was here.

The Dumbo costume has officially been delivered to its new owner, but making it brought back so many memories of my boy. Some made me smile. Others made my heart ache.

Grief is funny like that. Something as simple as sewing a costume can take you right back to a moment in time when your whole world looked different.

I never imagined that something I created for my dog would turn into a business that allows me to create things for dogs all over the world. And I certainly never imagined I'd have to continue building that business without him.

But here we are.

Everything Dymond's Co has become carries a little piece of Dior with it. And I hope that never changes.

I miss you so much, my bestest guy. I wish you could've met your little brother. I think you would've loved him. 🤍

The worst thing that could’ve happened, did. 😭

After countless hours of breathing in faux fur, the Highland Cow Costume finally came to life, a disguise so convincing there’s an uncanny resemblance. 😂

The Holstein Cow Costume was finished too, and I even packaged a special fragile gift inside their box.
I packed everything with the UTMOST care, covered the box in SIX fragile stickers, and sent these custom dog costumes on their merry way.

A couple days later, Kristen texted me: “I hope the costumes aren’t going to an old address in PA.”

My heart sank to my butt.

Knowing she’s originally from Pennsylvania, I hadn’t thought twice about the address. I assumed she might be visiting family.

Nope.

The costumes were in Pennsylvania. She's in SOUTH CAROLINA. 😭

The next day, tracking showed RETURN TO SENDER. Thank you, postal gods! Crisis averted.
..or so I thought.

I checked the tracking this morning and THE PACKAGE WAS BACK IN PENNSYLVANIA?!?!

After a good while on the phone with USPS this morning, a service request has officially been submitted to have the package re-returned to sender. AKA, ME. 😂

So now we wait.

Please cross every finger, toe, paw, and hoof that these cows finally make their way back to Colorado so I can send them to their ACTUAL home in South Carolina. 🐮

The things that happen behind the scenes of a handmade small business... you truly cannot make this stuff up.
