We've been working on the Farm Stand's curb appeal this week.

At the suggestion of Sherry Dorris Laurence, we've added steps to make it easier to get in and out of the stand.

Jean Sharp suggested turning the beat-up red wheelbarrow I accidentally ran over into a flower bed feature, so we're giving that old wheelbarrow a second chance at usefulness. Still got some work to do, but it's coming along.

We'll also be adding a few new signs with help from Carla Manes Rivers.

The work is still in progress, and we're looking for little ways to make the stand more welcoming. If you've visited recently, what's one thing you'd add? We'd love to hear your ideas.

P.S. The tomatoes are starting to come in! We expect some vine-ripened red ones in a few days, but in the meantime, who else loves fried green tomatoes? We sold out promptly today, but more will be available tomorrow morning.

Baby Duck Update 🦆

For those following the saga...

Penny originally sat on the duck eggs. While she was busy hatching them, Henny decided she wanted the nest for herself and promptly kicked Penny off.

The duck eggs hatched earlier this week under Henny's supervision, and Penny got her chicks back.

Yesterday was the ducklings' first day out of the nest.

Within minutes, two got lost and had to be escorted back to the coop.

Meanwhile, Henny continues raising them as if they are perfectly ordinary chickens.

Penny, on the other hand, appears to still have strong opinions about the entire situation.

One thing that makes these little ducklings especially welcome: more than a month ago our entire duck flock disappeared. These eggs were discovered afterward, and somehow Henny and Penny worked together to bring ducks back to the farm.

The Farm Stand is stocked for the weekend! 🌻

There's a little bit of everything this week.

New this weekend:
🍞 Homemade sandwich bread
🍪 Cowboy cookies in new packaging (single cookies, two-packs, and half-dozen boxes)

We've also added sunflower bouquets in mason jars. Each bouquet includes rosemary and catnip cuttings that can be rooted and planted at home, so the bouquet may keep growing long after the flowers fade.

We have a couple of lovely bouquets with herb and plant cuttings in the stand today. Start your own rosemary, catnip or wisteria while enjoying a fragrant sunflower bouquet, all packaged in a mason jar that you can reuse.

Shawnna has re-stocked her calendula salve and has added pine salve.

Calendula salve is widely used for its healing properties, making it effective for treating minor cuts, scrapes, burns, and various skin irritations.

Pine salve offers moisturizing, healing, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic benefits for skin, while also providing aromatherapy and soothing effects.

Sadly, we're currently out of potatoes, eggs, squash and cucumber, but we're expecting more soon, along with sweet corn.

I'm also making a trip to Country Gardens tomorrow. What sort of plants are you looking for? I may be able to pick them up for you.

We have a pip in one of the duck eggs! Hopefully I can post a real picture like this tomorrow!

P.S. I'm about to put a couple lbs of just-picked cucumbers (pre-weighed and bagged) in the cooler at the stand. $1.50/lb.

We still have potatoes and eggs!

Maybe more squash tomorrow!
