Take a look at this handsome boy — meet Hank!

Hank is the newest student at Tails A Waggin, and he’s working alongside his owners through our in-home training program. Like many dogs, Hank started out as a happy, lovable guy… just with a few missing manners. But that’s already changing fast!

This is only his second lesson, and his owners are already seeing huge improvements. Hank used to pull on the leash, jump on people, and struggle with crate time. Now? He’s walking beautifully on leash, staying much calmer when guests come over, and settling in his crate like a pro.

His owners have been putting in the work, and it shows — they’re doing an amazing job!

I can’t wait to see how far this family goes together 🐾

Meet Freya 🐾

Freya recently graduated from the 4-week board and train program at Tails A Waggin. But her story didn’t start out easy.

When Freya’s mom first reached out to me, she was going through a very difficult time. She had recently lost her beloved service dog and felt completely lost without him. Hoping to fill that space in her heart, she adopted Freya.

Very quickly, she realized she might be in over her head. In her words, Freya was a “wild child.” Her vet recommended she reach out to Tails A Waggin, and many people told her Freya just wasn’t the right dog for her and that she should consider rehoming her.

But she didn’t give up on Freya.

Instead, she chose to invest in training and give Freya a real chance. With guidance, structure, and support through the Tails A Waggin 4-week board and train program, Freya has made an incredible transformation.

Stories like this are exactly why I love what I do. Training isn’t just about teaching dogs commands — it’s about helping owners and dogs understand each other and building a stronger bond that lasts long after the training is over.

And now… just look at Freya. ❤️🐾

Have you ever felt like you were in over your head with a dog?

If you’re struggling with your dog and need guidance, feel free to reach out to Tails A Waggin.

Let me say this loud enough for the people in the back.📢 MEDICATIONS 💊 SHOULD NOT TAKE THE PLACE OF TRAINING!! I hear so often owners wanting to put their dogs on medication so they will calm down. Instead of putting in the time for training and exercising owners want to just medicate their dogs. Owners are getting young active dogs and expect them to just lay around without exercise or training.. dogs need training and exercise and if you aren't willing to do that then please don't get a dog or do your research and find a dog that will fit your lifestyle.

This is Benny. He was rescued by a lovely older lady who fell in love with his face. Who could blame her? He was saved from a kill shelter by a no-kill rescue. When Benny's mom adopted him he was out of control to say the least. She couldn't walk him on a leash or leave him alone. Benny also had a new older small dog sister and a cat sister. You know how young dogs can be. This is where I come in. Benny's mom called me desperate for help. If I couldn't help he was going to have to go back to the shelter and more than likely be put down. Benny's mom was uncomfortable with prong collars and ecollars but she was out of options so she trusted me and my methods. The first lesson could not have gone better! With some guidance, both Benny and his mom were learning to communicate with each other. While there I learned the rescue was drugging Benny twice a day with trazodone! How sad. This dog didn't need trazodone he needed training. Benny was also having trouble with his new sisters. He just didn't understand that he was so big and strong. Just after Benny's first lesson his mom was now able to control him on a leash. With every lesson, Benny's potential shone through. Benny is now able to go out in the yard with his sister without supervision or a leash. He knows she is fragile and he can't play too roughly. He also no longer chases the cat. They are now living happily together. With just some work you can transform your unruly dog into the dog of your dreams. How sad this story would have been if Benny's mom hadn't looked for help. Benny's behaviors could not have been fixed with treats. He needed to be taught respect and manners not given treats and drugs.

Contrary to what most people think. Dogs and puppies do not come trained. Just like kids, they need an education. They need to be socialized with their world around them and this needs to be worked on through their puppyhood. Just because they were ok with something when they were 12 weeks does not mean they are good and you don't need to keep practicing. Also just because a puppy isn't good with something doesn't mean you can't help them to become better at it. All dogs need training but some dogs just need more than others. If you don't like your dog's behavior then change it. No dog is too old to learn something.
Klaus went with me to a family get-together yesterday and did amazing. When he was 12 weeks old he met my niece and loved her. The next time he met her he was very nervous around her. So I worked with him and kept socializing with him. Now yesterday he was great with her. At first, he was nervous and we worked through it and then they had a great time together. Everything needs work including dogs.

This is not ok!! When that baby gets bit it will be the dogs fault and the parents will say it came out of nowhere. Do better parents.

I love it when past board and trains come for boarding. His face says it all. Even though I taught him rules and boundaries, he still loves coming to my house. Another nice thing for the owners is I carry the training through their stay so owners don't have to worry about back sliding like you do with some kennels.
