You think your dog knows how to come when called. And they probably do! Until SQUIRREL. Or another dog. Or a smell so astonishing that apparently you no longer exist.
So, here’s the thing: recall (coming when called) in your kitchen and recall in the actual, distracting, delicious-smelling world are two very different skills.
A great recall is something we build incrementally and thoughtfully. We practice when it’s easy before we make it harder. We give our dogs LOTS of successful repetitions. And then, when we ask them to leave something genuinely exciting to come racing back to us, we pay BIG!
(This is not a job for one sad little piece of kibble. For real, my friends.)
That’s what we’ll work on in Recall for a Meatball, my five-week live Zoom class devoted to building a really joyful, enthusiastic recall. An essential life skill that will bring greater comfort and freedom to your relationship with your dog!
Class starts Wednesday, September 9 at 7 pm ET and we meet weekly for five weeks. You’ll get easy-to-follow training plans, individual suggestions and support, plenty of time for questions, and a whole lot of practice making recall seem like the best decision your dog made all day!
