September is Su***de Awareness Month.
For those who spend their lives showing up on everyone else’s worst days, asking for help can sometimes be the hardest call to make.
First responders and members of our military are exposed to trauma, loss, stress, and situations most people will never experience. Too often, they carry the weight of those experiences quietly.
At Secret Keepers Service Dogs, we want to help change that. Our mission is to provide specially trained service dogs to first responders and military members—dogs trained to support individuals living with PTSD and help bring independence, confidence, connection, and companionship back into their lives. But our mission goes beyond providing a dog. We want every firefighter, law enforcement officer, EMT, paramedic, dispatcher, veteran, and service member to know:
You do not have to be the strong one all the time. You do not have to suffer in silence. You do not have to keep your secrets alone.
Checking on someone matters. Starting the conversation matters. Asking for help matters. And sometimes, four paws can help someone take that first step toward healing.
If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.
