It's here, winter, unbearably cold season.

Yet your dog still has to go out and most still want to stay out while being in those frosty temps.

The signs and symptoms of hypothermia include:

🐶 Recent exposure to extreme cold

🐾Weakness

🐶 Lethargy

🐾Low body temperature

Get into the habit of checking her temp after she comes back inside.

If her temperature is normal, great! But if it's low, she'll need to be warmed up a bit.

Worried about Hypothermia?

Warming too aggressively or quickly can be problematic, that should happen under veterinary care.

So, what can you do?

You can gently warm your pet in a way that keeps her comfortable for the ride to the nearest vet.

Wrap your pet in a large towel or blanket to help her body begin to rewarm naturally. Wrap her in something that will also keep her more comfortable on the way to see the vet.

How do you know it is Hypothermia?

Let's say your pet is showing signs of hypothermia minus the exposure to cold temperatures.

This is a bad, as the likely cause of low body temperature in a pet with no exposure to cold is a circulatory issue, and possibly even circulatory failure.

This can be very serious and definitely warrants an immediate trip to the nearest vet.

REMEMBER

🐕 You DO NOT want to actively warm your pet after a hypothermia emergency.

🐕 Just wrap her so she doesn't continue to lose excessive body heat.
Kind of like stopping the bleeding, but then letting the vet handle the rest.

🐕‍🦺 Most importantly, get to the vet as soon as you can!!

FOSTER OR ADOPTER NEEDED!

Barty has found himself back at the shelter and is having a very hard time adjusting back to the shelter life. He is scared and confused 💔

Barty is great with other dogs! He would do best in a quiet home. He is roughly 5 years old and spent a year and a half at Newark shelter!!!!! This boy deserves to be in a home for the holidays!

Inbox us if you're able to help.
