🐾🌎 WORLD RABIES DAY — SEPTEMBER 28 🌎🐾
Is your pet up to date on their rabies vaccine?
Think your indoor cat doesn’t need a rabies vaccine? Think again. 🐱
Even pets who spend their entire lives indoors can potentially be exposed to rabies. Bats are a common carrier of rabies in New Hampshire, and they can find their way into homes through surprisingly small openings. If a bat gets inside, your curious cat may have an unexpected encounter with wildlife — even without ever stepping outdoors.
And rabies is not something to take chances with. Once clinical signs appear, rabies is nearly always fatal. New Hampshire continues to see dozens of animals test positive each year, with wildlife such as bats, raccoons, skunks, and foxes among the animals that can carry the virus.
Vaccination is one of the simplest ways to help protect your pet — and your family.
In New Hampshire, dogs, cats, and ferrets **3 months of age and older are required to be vaccinated against rabies** by a licensed veterinarian, with boosters given as required.
So this World Rabies Day, take a moment to check your pet’s records:
✅ Is their rabies vaccine current?
✅ Are they due for a booster?
✅ Is your indoor cat protected?
Not sure? Give Northside Animal Hospital a call at 603-622-5299 and we’ll be happy to help you check! ❤️
Because when it comes to rabies, prevention really matters.
