A heart horse is hard to put into words. Jake has carried me through some of the best and hardest seasons of my life, always steady and always there.

The time I get with him is something I’ll never take for granted. He’s shaped me not only as a horsewoman, but as a person. Forever grateful for this horse and the bond we share. 🤍

People don’t realize how brave you have to be to post on social media. You can make a post with zero bad intentions, and somehow people will still create an entire story with no context and leave the most ridiculous comments imaginable. Some comments that may not even be relevant.

Here’s an example of just a small comment- that means nothing in the grand scheme of things- but is a good representation of how people can take .5 seconds of your video and turn it into something it’s not. I made a post on tik tok about cleaning horses water troughs with a drill attachment. I made the comment “and girls be sure to tie your hair back so it doesn’t get stuck in the drill when you’re leaning over” when explaining what I was doing. What I thought (and still think) is an appropriate thing to say was met with backlash. I have to laugh at this one, because if that is your take away from the video, then life is going to be very hard for that soft of a person. But this is your reminder, you have to laugh these people off.

There is always that one person. One every post. Saying something completely irrelevant, off the wall, and sometimes hurtful.

It’s easy to say “just ignore it,” but after awhile, constant negativity can genuinely wear on you mentally. Especially when people forget there’s an actual human being behind the screen reading it.

So if you’re someone who keeps showing up, keeps posting, keeps sharing your life, your business, your passion, your horses, your art, your opinions — give yourself some credit. That takes guts nowadays.

Don’t let miserable people on the internet make you smaller, quieter, or afraid to be yourself.

Jakey and I’s first run of the season with no practice. He had never stepped foot in this arena, not even for a warm up, and rode great. No spooking, no silliness, just ready to put in work (even if he isn’t 100% sure what that work entails 🤠😉) His heart is huge and I’m forever grateful for the try this boy has and gives me. Gonna start practicing, fine tune some things, and get some barrel reins and a saddle. Yall watch out for Jacob, he’s gonna be the fastest cow pony in NE KS by the end of the summer 🐎

Hey yall! I’ll be making more content soon and wanted to see if there was a video anyone has been wanting to see!

Is there a specific training or nutrition question you have with your horse? Is there a discussion topic you’d like me to research and talk about? Let me hear below!

Steady, consistent work delivers the results I value most: accurate and precise. True precision is achieved through careful attention to detail, not speed. Fast is not always best—quality and perfection require patience.

I will give each horse the time it takes to help it reach its full potential. That means no shortcuts and leaving holes that could later be a detriment to the horse. A human made timeline is the worst thing to ever happen to the horse industry. Do right by the horse, take the time it takes.

Here’s my fancy m**o 😉🤠💕 he’s gonna be tough to let go

Let’s talk about one of my favorite classes-

Ranch Riding 🐴

What is it?🤠

In simple terms this is a pattern class with various changes of gait, lead changes, and small obstacles. The goal of this class is to exhibit a horse that would excel in ranch work. Responsive, brave, willing, and accurate.

From the AQHA website; Ranch Riding

“This class measures a horse’s ability to be a pleasure to ride while being used as a conveyance from performing one ranch task to another. The horse and rider are asked to perform a pattern that includes changes of gait, extension of gait, crossing logs and lead changes. All maneuvers should be performed as if the horse were being used on a ranch, and the horse should demonstrate a high level of training, relaxation and quality of movement in all gaits.”

These classes are typically available at your local ranch horse shows, stock horse shows, and of course at the AQHA and ARHA shows 📍

So, if this is a class you want to dabble in I have a great prospect. She’s gorgeous, smart, but grade. Out of registered stock so you know the athletic potential is there and can see it in her movements. Just brought back in for a tune up. Stay tuned on her progress and sn**ch her up as your next prospect!

The biggest mistake you can make is under estimating a horse based on size or appearance. What matters is their heart and love for what they are doing. Jake may be a cow pony but he loves to run and gives every horse a run for their money. Don’t underestimate the little guy.

Your horses care should be a priority. How can you expect them to perform their best when they are poorly cared for? If you are thinking of getting your own horse here are a list of basic things that need done regularly. If you already own horses let these be a simple reminder for you and your team.

*Fresh water 💦
-It’s really that simple.

*Horse quality feed 🌾
-Cow feed, straight oats, or only a j***y pasture are not adequate. This can cause more harm than good in some cases. Forage is a necessity and the basis of a good diet, grain should be used as a supplement.

*Access to shelter 🏠
-The wind and rain combined can cause horses body tempt to drop and for them to struggle to heat back up. This is not only uncomfortable but can increase risk of colic.

*Hoof care🏇
-No hoof, no horse. Find an educated farrier. Be kind to them. And use them on a scheduled basis. Yes, even your babies and brood mares need their feet done.

*Vaccinations and Deworming
-No one wants rabies. Especially with the CDC testing shut down. There are countless other things you can vaccinate for but at the bare minimum do rabies, yearly. Deworm in the spring and fall to help keep an ideal bodyweight and digestive flow. If you have a horse with ribs showing but a big belly and not shedding, you got worms.

These are the simple most basic things that need done for every horse in your care. Do right by the animal. They didn’t choose this life, we chose them. Treat them that way.

Time is a weird thing. I thought I closed a chapter when I left Manhattan KS, probably to never be opened again. I thought I’d never see these horses again. But ~6 years later I’m back. Riding this same yellow mare in the flint hills.

This mare is going to make someone a wicked cool little horse. Ride her now and breed her later, AQHA registered. UFD send me a pm if interested 🤠

“Why do you always pony a horse?”

In all honesty it started because I’m usually a one man show with too many horses to work. I don’t have time to go down the same trail twice, when two horses can come at once. But what I learned was ponying can teach a lot more. Good and bad.

Horses learn so much from other horses, including confidence. They get used to someone being above them, being controlled in uncomfortable situations, and following the leader. This makes for a confident and trusting trail mount. On the flip side- Jake has learned he is always the leader and this has created its own sets of bad habits I’m not afraid to admit. As a young trainer I should have ponied him more rather than always making him the leader cause now he always thinks he should be a neck ahead.

So what started as a practice due to time constraints turned into a necessity for a lot of my colts (it depends if there is a good enough horse around to pony off of 🤠😉). Rotate your lead horse. Learn from my mistakes 🤠
