(Won’t Look Wednesday) is the pawfect time to show off Zuzu’s current structure! 🥰 At just 1.5 years old, she’s filling out beautifully & starting to look so mature—though still far too baby to even think about breeding. At 18 months, she passed all her 1st health tests for heart echo by cardiologist, eyes by ophthalmologist, & patellas; but we need to wait till she’s 2 to do her ofa hips/pennhip.
Seeing so many breeders rush to breed girls constantly too young is just sad. Many of these dogs are still young, gangly, & need all their nutrition just to grow into themselves.
Even worse is seeing young dogs constantly shuffled back and forth from guardian homes, confused & treated as income rather than family. Responsible breeding requires a deep investment in a dog’s health & well-being. It is incredibly hard to stay silent when I see dogs being bred with unbalanced structures that don’t meet breed standards, all without updated health testing.

To all future pet owners: please thoroughly study the breed you’re interested in. By supporting ethical breeders who prioritize structure & health, you can make a massive difference in the future of the breed. 🐾

🌀Hurricane Lowell Update: A Category 4 storm is heading toward Oʻahu & Kauaʻi for Labor Day weekend. A State of Emergency is active. Prepare for heavy rain, high surf, & strong winds. Today, it’s still sunny as you can see in these photos but can feel the strong winds already.

My stance: I’m very proud of my homebred girlies I’ve kept back in past litters who will forever be here with me. I could never put these girls in a guardian-home situation where they would be born into my hands, grow up here a bit, then go to their forever home, but then need to adjust back & forth for months at a time, only to bring them back to breed, have pups, & give them back to the family, then repeat over & over for so many years which would obviously be quite confusing for my very smart girls.. that’s no life for them if I truly care about & announce to others as cherished family members who very well have their own thoughts 🥺 Co-owning a boy dog is a bit different though since they don’t need to stay over for such a long period of time away from their families.

My heart is incredibly full tonight. Today, we opened my home to host a visiting heart clinic, & looking back on the day, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. We had a non-stop line of people coming through the doors seeking vital OFA health testing. Our incredible cardiologist & her tireless assistants worked alongside me to have this heart clinic to be successful until we were all absolutely exhausted—but it was worth every single second. Knowing that so many people in our community got the crucial care and answers they needed today makes all the hard work meaningful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to this amazing medical team, & to everyone who prioritized their dogs’ health today. 🩺❤️

P.s. I am so very relieved & happy about knowing all my babies heart health with an advanced cardiac (includes auscultation+ecg+echocardiogram). Now, I am going to ktfo in peace😆😴
