Hey everyone. It’s Beth here. How about a little p*ek into our day to day with our mamas and puppies? I pamper our mamas, it’s true. 🥰 During labor and or after, they get vanilla ice cream to give them extra calcium which is very important in laboring and nursing. Some like yogurt, some don’t. Some like chicken/hamburger and rice and some prefer puppy food only. Most like eggs. Some mamas like puppy formula and some can’t stand the stuff. Today they got steak mixed in! They all have their own preferences and I know them all! In the beginning, some like Mistletoe need to be hand fed. Puppy food with chicken. Have to make sure they eat for themselves and the pups. Sometimes they get picky about food like right now. Anna went in to take a p*ek at Mistletoe’s pups and now she’s on guard. Mind you, Anna is allowed in the room with her but going up to the box for a p*ek is not okay with her at this point and boy did Mistletoe let her know! So now she will cover her food with anything available, a p*e pad, a towel, drag a pillow off the bed!If she can’t find anything she’ll push it under the bed or couch. On the other hand, Anna is now guarding her food. It’s sometimes a guessing game with these mamas. In a few days they will settle down and go back to their routine, I hope.
Some mamas, like Mistletoe prefer to go potty before bed and tends her pups through the night until morning. Others, like Anna and Daisy need to go potty every couple of hours (or think they do) throughout the night. This time, Rowan has been sleeping on the couch and waking with Anna to put her out. I’m thankful for that. I think soon she won’t need so many potty times in the middle of the night which will help.
I’m doing laundry all day long especially once the puppies are walking around and start eating food. We used to sit (or sleep on the floor on occasion) next to the whelping box as mamas labor. We’re talking hours! We got smart this last year and have the box on the bed, which helps our bodies a little. That didn’t stop Gabby from having a puppy on Daddy’s chair while he was in it! Or twice having a puppy slip out of mama while she thought she had to potty and catching it on my toes! Once, we delivered a puppy in the car on the way to the emergency vet after a long labor of no progression. No labor is ever the same and we could write a book one day. It’s a full time job and exhausting, but we wouldn’t do it any other way.
We’re so happy with the transition and how the puppies are growing. It’s like both mamas birthed two puppies each. Once we gave Mazey/Ellie to Mistletoe she settled right down and is so doting on both “her” babies. We did it early enough that Anna didn’t even seem to realize one of her puppies was missing. It helped both of their milk supplies too. They both healed so well and you can barely tell that they had c-sections. We really do worry about them.
We love, love, love updates, pictures, and videos shared with us and we’ve kept up with some of our puppy families for a pups entire lifetime. It’s a very special thing. Thank you for loving and keeping us in your puppies’ lives! 🫶🐾
