The losses just keep coming lately and it’s taking a toll.

Pineapple is gone… he passed in my arms after a day of pain and appetite stimulant meds, keeping him warm on a (pet-safe) heating pad, and force-feeding him critical care.

I have no idea what could have caused him to do downhill so quickly after receiving a clean bill of health at the vet just a few weeks ago… He was happy and eating his veggies and Oxbow cookies Friday night and now he’s gained his angel wings by Sunday morning.

My heart is broken 💔

I knew Pineapple was unwell the moment I saw him today. He is not wanting to move or eat and his weight has dropped significantly. He doesn’t have any upper respiratory symptoms but he seems painful and I’m worried he may have gotten injured.

I am in contact with our vet, gave him some pain and appetite stimulant meds, got 20 ml’s of critical care down him and he seems to have perked up some. I’ll be keeping up the syringe feedings and getting him to the vet as soon as possible!

In case anyone was wondering what I have nightmares about…

I first dreamt that Pinto and Chickpea went to their forever home, and then popped up in another “rescue” that wasn’t actually a good rescue. I reached out to said “rescue” (who had my girls in a tiny cage) explaining all of Pinto’s medical concerns and how their adopter was supposed to return them if they could not keep them, but they refused to give them back. I was devastated and riddled with worry and panic.

Next, I dreamt that Sterling got into a horrible fight with three other males, leaving him with deep, bloody gashes all over his body. I raced him to the vet and sat and waited for close to an hour while his heart rate slowed down and he continued to bleed out, because the staff were having some kind of event and had all of their friends and family there, casually socializing.

I woke up shaky with tears on my pillow and my heart in my stomach… This happens regularly.

This rescue and these piggies are such a priority that even my unconscious mind constantly worries something could go wrong.

Anyways, thankfully none of that was real! Pinto and Chickpea are still at the rescue (and their new family would never do that) and Sterling has had 0 fights. He did start letting my daughter reach in and give him pets this week, though 🥰

Pinto and Chickpea can’t wait to head to their forever home next week! After being found abandoned outdoors by their owners, these girls are getting the happily ever after they deserve 💕

Heartwarming update on Pinto… her family still wants her, even after her diagnosis 🥹

Pinto will be going to her forever home with baby Chickpea next week, and we will continue covering her medical expenses at Caring Animal Hospital!

We unfortunately did not receive great news on Pinto today… 😢

She has two large masses, one on her bladder and one on her uterus.

Her large ovarian cysts are also starting to become painful so we are starting her on Meloxicam.

Our vet believes she is older, although her growth is severely stunted, and she may not have a ton of time left before these tumors grow too large for her tiny body.

Because the tumors are popping us aggressively in multiple places, our vet believes this is likely to be cancer.

You’d never believe she is unwell, the way she popcorns around and loves interacting with people, but this is why we vet check every piggy. These checks prevents an unsuspecting family from accumulating massive vet bills and enduring massive heartache after bringing their new family member home, and ensures the piggies who need it have access to routine vet visits, appropriate medication and expert care.

We are going to give little Pinto bean the absolute best final chapter imaginable 🩷
