This National Veterinary Technician Week, we're celebrating the incredible Associates who make our hospitals thrive — like Karen, who began as a CSR and never stopped growing and like Joanne, who sought mentorship and support to obtain her VTNE.

At VCA, we're proud to champion our veterinary technicians every step of the way — offering mentorship, encouragement, and the resources to help you reach your full potential.

To every vet tech in our VCA family: thank you. What you do matters deeply — to our teams, to our patients, and to the pet owners who trust us with their most beloved companions.

Paws do a lot of work! Take a moment to look between your pet’s toes and around their paw pads for redness, swelling, cracked pads, overgrown nails, or anything stuck where it shouldn’t be. Regular paw checks can help you catch small problems before they become much more uncomfortable.

Senior pets can experience subtle changes as they age. Watch for differences in mobility, appetite, thirst, weight, sleep, or behavior. Routine exams and recommended screening tests help your veterinary team monitor those changes and support your pet through their senior years.

Cats aren’t always obvious when something is wrong. Changes such as hiding more often, jumping less, grooming differently, eating less, becoming unusually vocal, or changing litter-box habits may be their way of telling you something has changed. When you notice a new behavior that persists, it’s worth paying attention.

Every surgery starts long before the first incision. It starts with a veterinary technician who has spent years mastering their skills, anticipating needs, monitoring vitals, and showing up fully prepared for every patient who comes through the door.

Vet techs are the heart of every OR team, and their skill and dedication make a difference every single day. At some VCA specialty hospitals, we take surgical collaboration even further. Some of our teams include Certified Surgical Technologists (CSTs) — professionals who earned specialized degrees specifically to support surgeons in the OR.

The result? Less time under anesthesia. Better outcomes. And a team that truly works as one. 💙

Because every patient is somebody's pet — and they deserve nothing less than the best.

Bad breath isn’t always just “pet breath.” Red gums, tartar buildup, drooling, dropping food, chewing differently, or avoiding hard food can all be signs that your pet’s mouth deserves a closer look. If you notice a change, bring it up at your pet’s next veterinary visit—or schedule an exam if they seem uncomfortable.

Mental wellness matters for pets, too. Enrichment gives dogs and cats opportunities to think, explore, problem-solve, and use natural behaviors. Try a food puzzle, hide treats for a scavenger hunt, teach a new cue, rotate toys, or give your cat a new box to investigate. A little variety can make an ordinary day much more interesting.

Cooler weather doesn’t automatically mean fleas and ticks disappear. Depending on your climate, parasites may remain active well into fall or throughout the year. Staying consistent with veterinarian-recommended prevention helps protect your pet even when temperatures begin to drop.

Today, we’re celebrating Dr. David Driggs and an incredible year together at VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital!

It’s been a pleasure having Dr. Driggs as part of our team, and while we’re sad to see him go, we’re even more excited about what lies ahead!

Dr. Driggs is continuing his journey toward becoming a veterinary cardiologist, and the best news? He’s staying right here in the South Florida veterinary community!

Thank you, Dr. Driggs, for a wonderful year, for all you’ve contributed to our hospital, and for the care you’ve shown our patients and their families.

We’re cheering you on and can’t wait to see all that you accomplish! Here’s to the next chapter!
